1 star: got my car broken into, someone smashed my rear window to steal my backpack. was on a road trip to Austin and hand camping gear and luggage in my SUV and someone decided they needed to break into my car! The park had a beautiful waterfall, however, it s also poorly kept by prone who leave their trash such a bottles and food wrappers on the shrubs and pathways.

I was looking for rivers and rivers near where I live until I finally found what I was looking for, you relax and have a good time there, and you can walk through the wooded area. I loved it, so I go there on my days off from work. I only need a fishing rod. but it is still not within my reach

It was a fun short hike. My family had fun going there. Its an easy one for kids. Bring water if youre going there this time of the year its very hot. Its worth it going there to see the falls. The water is very clear , and you can see the fish. I recommend it Toilets: Theres a restroom at the parking area. Dog-friendliness: Dogs need to be on the leash and not allowed to swim. Picnic area: Theres a picnic with a lot of shades.

Beautiful area with a short hike in to reach the water. Parking is very limited. There s a small wading pool, and further up the trail the falls area with clear water. A nice area to cool off. But be careful going into the water at the falls due to slippery rocks. People do not respect the no alcohol or glass rules. We ran into a drunk with plenty of glass bottles who totally took the relaxation out of the experience. Toilets: Restrooms are out house style and located in the parking lot.

A gorgeous shady nature hike complete with a small waterfall and shallow pool. Use the bathroom before you leave home. Because the US Army Corps of Engineers do not adequately maintain the pit toilet at the trail head. They are unsanitary, disgusting and a public health concern.

Took the family here for a little local adventure! Great time. We ended up getting lost on some of the trails as not many of them are marked very well. There s plenty of areas to venture out in and get into the water. It was so nice! If you re looking for a great place to take the family for a little outing, this place was perfect. There s plenty of free parking and areas where you can fish. We definitely plan on going back soon! Dog-friendliness: Have to be leashed but they re welcome there.

The waterfall itself is definitely worth the hike. It took me a lot longer to find it because the trails were not marked at all. There are several parts of the trail that branch off and there are no signs pointing which way to go. I took a couple of these branching paths by mistake, and while they did lead to some pretty interesting areas, they were quite dangerous as some of them drop down very suddenly. A lot of people are swimming here too. I personally wouldn t due to the quality of the water in some parts of the creek. Bring lots of water! The waterfall is not close to the parking lot!

Chalk Ridge Falls is a good hike for beginners and a relaxing low impact hike for intermediate hikers. There are no vigorous trails so its not much of a workout. It is a very short hike that took only about an hour to do because its only about 2 miles long. There is a nice falls area where you can take a dip in the water. It was a little crowded when we went. Definitely not the best hike we have done but at least it wasnt the worst either.

Had my car broken into while we were hiking. They attempted to pry open the door, and when that didnt work, they shot at my window with a bb gun and finally succeeded, breaking my back passenger window. The hike itself was nice but having to buy two new windows killed the mood. The trail: Not good for wheelchairs or strollers after a certain point. The waterfall is very soothing and peaceful. Water was foamy (bacteria) so we stayed out of it, but got lots of pretty pictures.

Nice hiking spot, we enjoyed the falls a lot, but the walking paths down to the falls probably needed to be improved a little bit. Also, there was lots of trash around and no bins except the dumpster at the parking lot. We did our best to pick up trash, but you have to bring your own gloves and bags. I wish people would take better care of places like this.. maybe trash cans at the swimming areas would help with that.

Nice little hike. Weve been twice so far. The first time water was flowing last time it was empty, which was disappointing but understandable. Weve been lucky with parking and never had to wait, but depending on when you go, there could be a little wait to park. Bathrooms werent open last time we went, and the time before, they didnt carry soap. So I recommend bringing water and soap with you to clean up afterward. Its very pretty, good amount of bugs like beetles, bees, spiders, silk worms, etc. Never seen a snake yet, but im more than sure theyre there. The bridge was also broken when we went, which is a bummer. Well shaded for the most part. Easy for beginners and kids.

Drove up from RR and was pleasantly surprised...in some areas the trails are in bad condition, with washed out steps and ruts. The cliffs at the back were cool. Reminded me of Barton greenbelt but without the homeless people. Me and my 7 year old son, followed a very sketchy path to the top of the ridge. According to Strava, a 150ft climb.. The trail on top was awesome but I dont recommend unless you are willing to do a difficult climb/descent back down. The waterfall is nice and Im sure this place is pumping during the wetter times

It was cold today and there are lots of cross trails. Nothing is marked and there are multiple off-shoots, so thats the main reason for loss of s. If it wasn t for the All Trails map and a couple people on the trail, I might still be out there. Some stairs and wooden bridges. The suspension bridge is still out. Small parking lot and vault toilets at trailhead. Not bad for free.

I gave this park 3 stars even though I liked it because it was hard to navigate and the trails were VERY unkept. However, I think in the summer, when the falls are really rushing, this would be a beautiful place to stop and have a swim for both adults and children. I knew the falls would be thin because its January, I didnt have high expectations. I was more so there to complete a hike along the lampasas river. I chose to do the Chalk Ridge Falls Park Trail which was about 3 miles out and back. It started off really nice, you pass the falls, then pass the broken down bridge, then pass a group seating area near the swimming hole AND THEN it gets wild. The trail is very unkept, I had to climb over and under broken down trees on the path, there are a lot of giant holes in the middl of the trail, it was hard to find alternate routes around such things because the shrubs are 3.5ft tall and there are a lot of greenbriars out there! I would not advise anyone go out past the swimming hole without proper boots or trail shoes and having their arms/legs covered or youll end up with a lot of cuts. The end of the trail was also not at all exciting. There wasnt a waterfall, a swimming hole, or anything particularly exciting about the end. It just ended. Despite that trail being a whole ordeal, the rest of the park is a bit hard to navigate too. I have Verizon and I didnt have service throughout most of the park so I couldnt pull up my Alltrails app and I got turned around 3-4 times before I found my way to the trail. There are a lot of fun little side trails to be explored if you dont mind getting a little lost! Thankfully, you can hear the falls from most parts of the park so if you do get turned around, you can just head back to the falls. Id still recommend a visit, and I may even come back in the warmer months to see if its better maintained, but for now, 3 stars it is. Toilets: Theres a single-stall pit toilet restroom at the parking area that was well stocked with TP and hand sanitizer. No restrooms in the park though.

Beautiful trails. It looks as though at one time it was maintained very well. There is still potential. My biggest concern was the amount of trash littered throughout. I wanted to take a photo of the falls from a certain angle, but unfortunately there was a plastic bottle floating in the water. Of course the responsibility to maintain cleanliness and litter free trails rest on all our shoulders. As they say what you carry in, make sure you carry out. Perhaps, more trash receptacles along the trail would help for those that do not seem to follow the rule of what you pack in you pack out. Over all, a pleasant place to hike and experience the solitude of nature. Toilets: Descent, but need to be remodeled.

Its a pretty nice hiking area with lots of different trails and things to see with a waterfall. The bathrooms however are disgusting and overflowing pit toilets.. get ready to hold your breath while in there. Toilets: Very gross and overflowing. Id rather squat in nature.

The falls were almost dry, but still a beautiful place to take my girls for a walk. We will definitely make a trip back after we get some rain!

A nice little water fall a short walk from the parking area. I was surprised that the water was still flowing after this dry spell. The trail to the falls is not well marked, pretty much not marked at all. We found it after trying several trails and finally meeting several ladies coming back from the falls. There are a few people out there that should be ashamed of themselves, there is a lot of trash along the trail and thrown into the woods, I dont understand how 2 legged pigs could be so disrespectful! Toilets: They have two modern outhouses that serve their purpose. Dog-friendliness: Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.

It was HOT day to try out this place, but we survived it ok. It was a good hike with our grandsons though the recent weather conditions made the falls nearly non-existent.

As long as you know it s a small trail and the suspension bridge is closed down you ll like it. Don t get your hopes up for it being worth a long drive. It s good for locals wanting outdoor cardio

My husband and I love hiking around Chalk Ridge Falls. Its a short hike but very peaceful. There are also great opportunities to climb. Dogs are welcome. Dog-friendliness: Bring your dog on a leash, but pick up after your pup.

Hidden gem North of Austin in Belton Texas. Trails are well marked, pubic restrooms available, and easy parking. Beautiful waterfall, bridges, and even more beautiful when there is water in the creeks.

Socialize your pups from an early age!!! Keep your dog on leash while in the state park because you know you re supposed to anyways ; keeps your and everyone else s dog safe from something tragic happening ! It would be nice if that was ENFORCED
