I was disappointed. I got the fried fish, yams and red beans. The fish was pretty good but I threw the sides away. The yams were way too sugary for me and the red beans tasted like they were ranch beans out of the can just doctored up. The people are friendly but I want be back..

Saw all the reviews on whip my soul and everybody was saying how wonderful it was so I went to check it out myself. I had the catfish yams greens cornbread and a caramel cake. The catfish was great. The yams were okay were just cut too big. The greens had was a little bitter. My husband had the same but different sides he had the beans and rice the beans tasted out of the can but all in all was a good meal Dietary restrictions: They had no dietary restrictions no diet anything no diet Coke no diet Pepsi no zero anything

10 stars! Hands down best soul food in whole Austin area period. We tried the 2/2/2 loved the wings especially and the cornbread too was fire. The egg rolls with ox tails and Mac n cheese insane. Oh and the kooks is on point. Well be back again and again. And again. Unbelievable.

Do not place online orders on the weekend. They will allow you to place the order via Grub Hub; however, you arrive to pick up the order and the restaurant says we do not take online orders on the weekend . The restaurant required us to reorder and pay again and we were told now have to call Grub Hub to get a refund. They have too much business on weekends to take your online orders according to the cashier. The food is good but their operation system for online orders is messed up.

We planned a Girls trip to New Orleans but due the Tropical Storm we had to change. So we went to Austin and we pulled up this Restaurant. I ordered the 2 wings and 4 shrimp entrée with red beans and rice, greens. Everything was very well seasoned and I stop eating a lot of pork I loved the fact the greens was made with Turkey. Ive enjoyed Whip My Soul at a few catered events, but this was my first time at their brick and mortar location. I went on a Sunday a few hours before they closed and the place was packed! But the line moved quickly and a table was available by the time I put in my order. I ordered a sample platter (chicken and fish) with greens and cornbread dressing as the sides. The food came out quickly and tasted amazing. Some of the best soul food Ive had in a while and definitely the best in Austin. I also got Kool-Aid... I havent had any in years and it was perfect... just the right amount of sugar. I was a little surprised that they dont offer fried sides on the weekend, but I get it. Weekends are high volume and frying takes a while. Better to prioritize frying the chicken and fish. The location isnt convenient for me, but its worth the drive when the soul food craving hits!

Ordered: 3 wings and a waffle Great crisp, on breaded wings. The coating was not thick. The chicken is also seasoned and not spicy. The wings were not greasy. These are full wings and not the flats and drums bs count. Not abnormally large. Not tiny. The waffle was not super fluffy or dense. It was a really good in the middle. Great taste. It paired well with the chicken. I did not need to use syrup, though it was provided. If you are craving chicken and waffles, this is great. Highly recommend. Ordered: 4 shrimp and 2 fish with 2 sides. The shrimp was fresh and a decent size. Well seasoned and breaded. The fish was REAL catfish! Not swai or white fish. It was fresh and also fried well. The crisp and seasoning were delightful on both the shrimp and fish. Sides: The fried okra was not as seasoned as I would have liked it, but it was seasoned. Although any more may be salty to some. The breading was perfect, and it was fried well. None of the fried items were greasy. We ordered the yams: if you are diabetic. Dont. These were fantastic! Straight candy. I like a more solid structure. They were soft but not at all mushy. Straight candy. I dont know how else to say it. When you bite into it, your teeth will puncture the meat of the yams and then sink into a smooth interior. Ordered: cheesy mac and shrimp egg rolls. You have to order this. Best egg roll ever. I said it. The cheesy mac was cheezing, and the egg roll was crispin. The shrimp provided great texture, and its gentle seasoning blended well with the cheese and egg roll wrap. Beware: Certain fried sides are not available on the weekends (Fri-Sun). Okra, fries, onion rings, pickles, etc. Drink: 2 cups of water. The water had an odd taste. The watermelon cucumber water was also delightful. It is dispensed from a soda machine. Not too sweet. It was refreshing. They have about 6 Kool aid type beverages and other sodas also available. The Kool aid type drinks have individual dispensers for each flavor. The lady at the register was friendly, welcoming, informative, enthusiastically spoke about the menu options when asked. We visited around 5:30 pm on a Thursday afternoon. It was busy but tolerable. The food is definitely worth it. The kitchen moves at a good speed, especially when you consider how well everything was seasoned and cooked. You pick up your food at the counter when your name is called, and you clear your own table when done. Highly recommend. We will be back this weekend. Over 1000 misleading reviews - dont get fooled by the 1000 people who went to a restaurant for their first time in their life. Staff is anything but friendly, food is anything but tasty. Deep fried over salted, greasy food. Half the sides are not available on the weekends and the other half was out. It took them over 1 hour to prepare a to go order that consisted of some deep fried patty they called a pork chop with a few pieces of deep fried chicken tenders. I definitely regret coming here. POST REVIEW EDIT: The most amazing part of this experience was that it took them less than 5 minutes to respond to my review while it took them over 1 hour to prepare an out of the bag patty slapped on a generic bun.

My most recent experience I was not pleased. I thought they forgot the peach cobbler and so a gentleman came around, didnt say anything to me and reached in my bags. Dont ever do that again. Update- I went back a second time and they did not disappoint! This time around I got chicken wings, mac n cheese, yams and cornbread. The Mac was so cheesy and the yams were so delicious. The wings were seasoned well and a nice size. The atmosphere was very chill and they have a lot of drink options which was nice. The staff were friendly and I got my food in a timely manner. I ll definitely go back a third time to try something else! Hands down the best soul food I ve had in Austin! I live in Killeen but l called in while i was in Austin making my weekly routine business trip. I called-in my order 45minutes in advanced because I have a car full of $400 worth of ice cream. It is being cooled by dry ice & air conditioner but still time sensitive & I let them know that is why I am calling in advanced so I WONT HAVE TO WAIT. I even offered to pay in advance over the phone but he said it wont be neccessary & he agreed & insisted on waiting 20minutes before he would start making my food but that they would have it ready for pick up by the time I arrived. And when I get there guess what ..I HAD TO WAIT ...25 minutes. Yes 25..as if they never even started. After paying, I was told just a few seconds they are bagging it up...another 10 minutes goes by & suddenly Im being told there is 10 minute wait on Mac n Cheese I reluctantly say OK because ATP im too invested..but cmonnn Mac & Cheese??? Atp I know Im being told lies & ultimately ended up waiting 15 minutes more. Why cant food restraunts respect peoples time & have things ready when they say they will? I know things get busy but an order placed 45minutes in advance is plenty of time to have 2 plates ready. Im watching groups of people who just walked in being served chicken & yams so what that tells me is they gave priority to the people who dined in & completely disregarded my mine. I know they probably wont care because the customer before me spent $70 for only 2 people so they will make their money regardless..but for me I wont be returning. This was my second & last visit. The first time I dined-in & it was a pleasant experience, but completely opposite experience when i called-in my orders. The food is just decent & waaay overpriced anyway. I wont be back but thanks for wasting my time & costing me $80 in damaged product because you lied instead of just telling me that you dont do call-in orders for your mediocre soul-food!

Actually the worst service I ve had in a very long time. I drove from Round Rock to this establishment for a simple vegetable plate. My son went in for me to pick up what was supposed to be a quick in/out. 40 minutes later . We were still waiting on food. Completely unacceptable. So I requested a complete refund. My cousins who live in Austin recommended this place & it did not disappoint. This family owned business hit ever mark. The food was well seasoned but not salty. Absolutely delicious. The owners/staff were extremely hospitable. The establishment was clean and sanitary. This is the perfect place to eat some good food and have a great conversation with the ppl you came with. My brother and I reside in Dallas and traveled there twice this past week and the food tasty and the staff were very welcoming and very friendly. Will definitely go back. Upon entering the atmosphere was Great & the Cashier was very friendly & customer service oriented! :) So we order and the cashier said it would be about 20-25 minutes and they will call your name at the window so we sat & chilled & talked to a few people in the restaurant which was nice. I told my husband it s been 20 minutes he said they said 25 minutes I said I m just letting you know so we gave them another 10-15 minutes still nothing. So I go to the manager and ask him two questions 1- how much longer on our food he asked my name and asked was I sure it was under that and I m like yes because I placed the order! Lol.. He couldn t find my order so I pointed to the lady that took it. He said we will rush your order! So we had been waiting over 40 minutes and none of our food was made or even started! that was VERY DISAPPOINTING & FRUSTRATING. I was wanting to order a large Mac to go with our order as well! The manager was really nice to give that for free for the excessive wait! When I say excessive meaning the people that were behind us in line and the ones that came in after them etc had time to get their food eat and leave before we got ours. And I m not even exaggerating! Now let s talk about the food after we waited over 1hr and 20 minutes I told the guy that brought it to us Thank you he didn t say your welcome or nothing I was like Wow! So tried the food Waffle & shrimp we gave a 4. Catfish were smaller than expected the wings were on POINT. The red beans, greens & peach cobbler were GOOD, Mac & cheese, Yams, both egg rolls Mac & shrimp & collards were GREAT. We were disappointed also with no hush puppies on the weekend that was the first thing I was going to order! Overall the food was good!

In town for work from Houston, and I was craving some fried fish. So happy I found this place. I had the fried fish dinner with Mac&cheese and sweet potatoes. This fish was well seasoned. I like my fish fried hard and forgot to tell them but when it came out it was just right. Mac&cheese was cheesy and tasteful, and the sweet potatoes were delicious. The gentleman taking my order made me feel at home. All staff members were friendly. The vibe was there too. I will definitely be back and recommend it to anyone looking for good soul food.

The peach cobbler is a 2 out of 5 stars and barely a 2. It has way too much lemon and the crust is soggy. I also didnt like how a male employee came to my table and went through my food bag. My fault for not looking thoroughly, you could have said its in a white container or something but sir dont EVER walk up to a customer and go through there bag for them! Overall the food is good and I wish them success. I wont recommend dinning in but get it to go and make sure to ALWAYS check before you leave because they ALWAYS leave something out from my experiences.

I ordered one box at first and ate macaroni & cheese while I checked on my order. I have to order a second order since it was soooo goooood! The chicken wings are great! My picky eater even loved them. They are often out of something, which makes getting your food sometimes 45 minutes after ordering. I recently moved to Austin from Georgia and had missed some of the great bites I had at Whip My Soul. I cannot recommend this place enough! The fried fish and tenders are so crispy and moist. The mac and cheese is very cheesy and the cornbread is moist. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There was no wait when we arrived around 6:30pm on a Wednesday but by 7pm there was a short line that still moved fairly quickly. Our food came out quick and hot. Delicious! We got the 7 shrimp dinner plate with red beans and rice and mac and cheese, and chicken tenders and waffles. My husband declares the mac and cheese to be the best he has had in his life. This restaurant is not open. Drove 30mins because they did not update Google that they are under construction or something. Walked up to door and still no sign saying they were closed or any info. I had to peek through window and see restaurant in disarray. People inside but no one came to the door...several people came and went as we set there trying to figure out somewhere else to go. I applaud updating ur restaurant but please keep the public informed. So first, I will say this is the 2nd best soul (after Trap Kitchen) food place that I have had in Austin..... well Texas period. As a girl that grew up on the east coast (dirty south), I have been left home sick because the food here has been trash. I wish they didnt run out of the major staples like yams and mac. Honestly the owner or manager ruined my experience not sure which one he is but he was at the register today 6/1/24, I ordered my food and waited about 20-25 minutes which was cool, upon receiving my order I went to my car where I looked in my bag and discovered one of my sides were wrong, I immediately went back inside, they guy asked me what was wrong? Whip My Soul is a casual dining spot for good soul food. The offerings are delicious with wonderful entrees and great side dishes. If youre looking for some good home cooking, youll find it here. Also available is a great selection of soda (called pop for some of us ) with a wide array of interesting Kool-Aid flavors to remind us of our childhood. Seating is available, but get there early especially on Sunday afternoons in the hours following church. You order at the counter and have food delivered to your table if its not busy; otherwise, youll go back up to get your food. My husband and I traveled to Austin for my birthday get away and were excited to go to Whip my Soul (I love the name!!!). As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted and felt so welcomed. The atmosphere took me back to the 90s when R&B was REAL! The gentleman that took our order was so patient with us as we looked over the menu, but I wished he had made some suggestions or at the very least asked if it was our first time there (bc you could tell we were first timers). I would also suggest having very small sample cups so people can taste the sides (i.e. the greens are called mean greens, but it has nothing to do with the spice level). Now on to the food... everything came out fresh and hot! The proteins could take a little seasoning before breading, but overall they were cooked to perfection. They give you nice sized portions for you sides! The greens and the Mac and cheese were cooked perfectly. The greens were tender and the pasta did the Mac was still al dente (no mush at all). However, my husband and I thought both were a little sweet and we didnt care for that. This is just our personal choice bc some people may like their greens and Mac sweet but we will pass on that. Overall, this was a good birthday treat! And you can tell that the locals love it bc they were flocking there! By the time we left out, the line was almost out the door! Suggestion: add a second trash can out move the one by the entrance. It is weird and difficult to trash over people who are in line to give their order and it makes your entrance congested.
