Our team visited Sapori Italian Roots recently while in downtown Austin. It was an excellent experience, with a friendly and helpful staff, a nicely appointed dining area with plenty of room for even our large party, and delicious food that was both tasty and generous in portion sizes. When you enter the restaurant you choose your selections and pay at the register, and then find your seating location. In our case, they identified that we were in a larger group and set up an area for us. Once seated, a very delicious bread was brought out as a pre-meal introduction, which we dipped in the oil and herbs they had for that purpose. The meals themselves were freshly prepared and simply amazing. I had the sausage and peppers and was blown away by how great it was. Everyone at the table made similar comments for their meals. This is definitely a must visit spot if you are in downtown Austin.

Terrible food but good service. We went tonight and it was empty. Should have left then. But saw the reviews so thought we d try it. Definitely shouldn t have. The fettuccini Alfredo was disgusting. Thick, peppery, and awful. I ve never had worse. The bread was hard. I was not impressed. But the server was great and nice and checked on us often.

Unusual Italian A small Italian restaurant downtown Austin. Friendly staff good food, but doesnt match Italian experience in my mind. Given the high cost per sqft downtown, its hard to offer good at good value. Ill say the prices arent outlandish, the serving size is generous, but the food wasnt to my expectations. The bread was not warm and very spicy and a bit doughy. The calamari was ok, was expecting it to be more fresh. The main dish, a vodka pasta was good but it tasted more like a sausage gumbo rather than an Italian dish. It was mostly meat and sauce. The sauce was very peppery and one dimensional. The sausage was nice but again very spicy. Maybe it will be to others liking but not what I was expecting. The space was small, felt cramped, and the seating uncomfortable. At what price point can I expect better than a tin can to sit on? They played contemporary music, no Italian feel there, and the place produced a lot of echo. It was pretty loud, so not a place for a romantic meal. At best it felt like a by the slice pizza joint. I only call this out as the meals are near the $20.00 a plate range. Maybe Im asking too much.

Hidden gem that won t be hidden for long. Atmosphere was intimate and nice. Very clean with a fully open concept kitchen. Service was fast, helpful and knowledge. Everything was scratch made and fresh. The food came out so fresh and hot I burnt my mouth on it. It clearly came straight from the pan into my plate and immediately to my table. I got the vodka pasta with house made sausage. It was phenomenal. My girlfriend needed her chicken parm made special without sauce, they accommodated without flinching. She said it was the best chicken parm she s ever had. The staff also served the pasta without sauce without us asking. Finally, I couldn t believe how inexpensive it was. $20/entree. They could easily charge double that given the quality and location. Best Italian food I ve had in the south by far.

Was very excited to try this place as I love authentic Italian food and fresh pasta. The food may have been good for a food truck but it was very disappointing for a brick and mortar. I found things to be over seasoned with herbs so that the freshness of the ingredients was not apparent. The texture of the pasta was gummy, the vodka sauce was oily and broken, and the sausage seemed very processed and did not taste good at all. The tiramisu was excellent and the service was very attentive.

My friend and I had the best experience here! We were celebrating my friend s birthday and came here for dinner before a show at the Paramount Theatre a block away and the pasta, salad and wine were all good + all the staff was so kind and attentive and observant. After the show we decided to return for dessert (the tiramisu). All of the staff recognized us and were so sweet again. We were treated so well and we will be back! This place is in a very convenient location near Congress Street, but feels very cozy. Everyone from the waitstaff to the Manager gave the best customer service and the food was fresh and delicious. Thanks, Sapori staff

The food was overall disappointing. I ordered a side of meatballs and unfortunately they were overloaded to the brim with sauce and the meatballs themselves left a unpleasant aftertaste. the Caesar salad was good and i enjoyed it. The chicken Parmesan was also splendid just once again a bit heavy on the sauce. overall, i was just disappointed because it tasted almost as if they were still making it in a food truck. The service alright.

I went there yesterday to celebrate my birthday and was fortunate because it was the one year anniversary of the opening of their brick and mortar which I celebrated with my friend on a couple of levels. First off I had to try it because I hadn t and I don t know why I hadn t especially since I m always looking for good Italian food in Austin, which is, incredibly difficult to find. Secondly when I read that the owners father who was born in Italy, but grew up in the Bronx on Arthur Avenue I said OK and Stan we have to go since my mother grew up near Arthur Avenue as well. I wasn t disappointed in the slightest And I m going to be bold enough to say that this is probably the best Italian restaurant in the city because it s authentic and yes it s Sicilian well Calabrian but with a Sicilian flair. The meatballs are by far delicious. The sauce is so sweet. I asked if it contains sugar as many people put sugar in there tomato sauce, and it did not. But it was delicious a little too much balsamic vinegar for my taste, but otherwise delicious with red chili peppers and cherry tomatoes And arugula. For the main, I had the ravioli which came in for huge pieces of ravioli spinach with cheese filling I could only eat one and a half of them. I ordered shrimp on the side. I would ve preferred jumbo shrimp from main or the East Coast, but these were smaller shrimp you could tell they were from the golf, because by the time you cook them, they turn into little bits of nothing still delicious. The sauce was a marinara cream sauce, and I tasted what my friend had which was the pesto pasta also fantastic. We tried out there Bellini, which was too sweet for my taste. I could tell it was not made with fresh peach but rather a mixture OK the Prosecco was great and we had to rush to a show so we really didn t have time to spend. I love the clean modern atmosphere, it s more like a café and I guess the only downside to all of this is the parking of which there is not a lot. We got there at 5:30 which is a perfect time.

We went to Sapori after an event at the Paramount Theater because we saw them on a list of places offering discounts to people with tickets to the Paramount. The food was pretty decent and in good sized portions. We tried the chicken parm and penne alle vodka - the penne was just a bit better. Our waitress, Lexi, had a noticable attitude when answering a couple questions. I gave her the benefit of the doubt, and still tipped her 20%. Then my boyfriend came back from the restroom and told me he overheard our waitress complaining about having to apply the theater discount to the bill. Something to the effect of trying to get 10% off on a $30 bill. Thats not only rude, but insensitive to a strangers financial situation. Plus, the tip was calculated on the pre-discount total, so it literally cost her nothing to apply our discount. At least wait until the customers are out of the restaurant before complaining about them. Vegetarian options: Alfredo was vegetarian unless you added meat

In an effort to turn over a new leaf, and also because this was just that good, I wanted to share my experience at Sapori. I was in the mood for Italian and am only in Austin for a couple nights for a work retreat. Having looked at the menu and the prices, honestly, I was not expecting much. I walked in and was seated immediately by a very sweet host and served some amazing focaccia right away. I ordered chicken parm with a side of fettucini alfredo. This place honestly deserves more than 5 stars. Every ingredient is made fresh and you can taste it. And not only is the food fresh, but super tasteful. The perfect amount of flavor. And our server, Birch, was the absolute best. Great vibe, and great at recommending food options for us. We have our Italian food spot in Austin

What a great dinner before catching a show at the Paramount! Delicious pasta at reasonable prices. I had the chicken fettuccine Alfredo and not only was the portion generous, more importantly, the volume of chicken was generous! The wait staff was sensitive to our time constraints and friendly as can be. Ill be back as soon as I can. (Wasnt so thrilled with the glass of red wine on tap but wine can be hit-or-miss with me. No judgement on the restaurant.)

Seriously the best fettuccine Alfredo I ve ever had. There was nothing on the table that we didn t love. The servers are attentive but not intrusive or overbearing, the food was all hot and delicious. It was a great dining room and a nice place to spend time being so close to congress. They also validate parking in the garage around the corner. It s so hard to find a place making fresh noodles and sauces in house, and even harder to find someone making them right, Sapori sets a high standard.

We were 7 visiting Austin looking for good Italian. Called a highly touted place downtown and they didnt have space for us. Blessing in disguise! Saporis is tucked away on the ground floor of a building downtown. Looks like a little retail shopping store, but dont let the looks fool ya. They have a young., well trained, accommodating staff. Our server, Lexi, was delightful and said yes to all of our special requests with a big smile! I was certain they couldnt deliver. I was wrong. The food was sensational. We all started mentioning it when the appetizers arrived. The sauce in the meatballs and seafood mushrooms was exceptional. Our group leaned into the spicy and so many of the orders included their Arrabiata sauce. The Arrabiata sauce was delicious. AFter thinking about it for a couple of days, maybe the best sauce I ever experienced on pasta (no pressure). Hats off to the owner and cooks!! My thoughts were quickly supported by the others in the group. What a joy to find this hidden treasure. They could have charged me three times what we paid and I would have been happy. With food this great, these folks will eventually graduate to finer location and their prices will rise, no doubt. Run to Saporis and enjoy great food! Ask for Lexi....shes golden!

Amazing food and even better customer service. We used to go eat at the food truck and were bummed when it was gone. Turns out they upgraded to a brick and mortar - as deserved. Some of the best Italian food in Austin and for great prices. Everyone on the staff, including the owner, was incredibly kind and our server checked in on us multiple times during the meal. Get the cheese raviolis!

We got the Mexicane coke for our drinks and it tasted so good. Then we shared a chicken Alfredo. The noodles were perfect. The chicken was juicy. The sauce was so creamy. Id give 10 stars if I could. The food was incredible, especially the pasta and sauce, which is made in house every day. Sapori s is located doentown and is a short walk from the state capital. Finding reasonably priced, FRESH authentic Italian food in Austin is challenging. I highly recommend

Customer Service was THROUGH the roof!! 10/10 I sent back the Penne Primavera only because I wasn t really wanting so much vegetables but the way the had immediate vegetarian suggestions for me was spot on. Our waitress Illiana and her manager Gino came at separate times after bringing the new plate and made sure it was to my satisfaction. It was a great experience and i loved the Mushroom Rosodo!! If you ve had a long day or just wanna go get affordable great food where the staff cares, check this place out!! Thanks again Gino & Illiana!!!!

Ive been wanting to try this place since they were a food truck. We live in San antonio, and I dread that I35 traffic, so I was patient. The wife and I were in the area, and I pounced on the opportunity. We started with some special drinks, frozé. We were also served some bread and some sort of olive oil. Both were very good. I wanted more but had to save some room for the food! They were so good! Then we split an order of the mushroom risotto. Perfectly cooked, so creamy, and chock full of mushrooms! For the main course, I ordered the gnochetti with bolognese, and wifey got the penne vodka. Both dishes were very delicious, especially the sausage that comes with the penne. Our server was very attentive and informative on the menu. They do not have their own parking lot, so be prepared to look for a spot or park in a garage. We will definitely be coming back when in the area.
