Ok. I love love Lichas Cantina. However- they changed their menu! I do foodie tours and the absolute hands down best thing was the tuetano on a tostada. The bonemarrow was the star! Brought a recent tour there and got a tuaetano esquate- corn. While it was presented nicely not a single person ate the 5 orders I made! Please bring back the taco with tuetano on it! The corn overshadowed the star of the dish!

Stopped in for a quick bite and drink. The food was great but the staff really made this place. We were in town visiting and the bartenders chatted with us forever, gave us a bunch of recommendations and were so friendly. Great place for a night-cap!

I used to love this place! Maybe it was a bad night. Server messed up our order several times. Noticed he kept hitting a margarita in between visits. Felt very turn and burn. The food was mediocre and one tasted rotten and we just skipped it after the second attempt at getting the appetizer correct. Margarita was sloppy and salt had gotten dumped in. Not planning to return anytime soon. There are too many other amazing places to eat at than to choose to go here.

Lovely spot and one of my favorites in Austin, I take all my visiting guests. the margaritas here are one of the best in the state of Texas and the atmosphere on a lovely day can not be beat in Austin. The quesadillas are heavenly don t look past them, and we love the skillet style tacos. Don t sleep on the guacamole and Queso Fundido to start your meal. The Mole is also excellent. Octopus and the ceviche were enjoyed by the table

After spending a quick weekend in Austin, we both agreed dining at Lichas Cantina was probably our favorite part! The ambiance was comforting and eclectic, our service was outstanding and everything we ordered was over the top delicious! The Queso Fundido and Elote appetizers were amazing and once again, Liches knocks it out of the park with the Mezcal selection and cocktails. Truly loved sitting in the back open air patio (was much cooler back there) and a stroll through the kitchen made us feel as though we were back in Oaxaca, in an open air market, people watching and enjoying the vibes. Great Music! Puro Punto Party! Go get some. Dixeebe!

Had higher expectations when walking in. Cute little place with a cozy, homemade vibe. Drinks were disappointing, especially for Austin. Food wasn t at the price point. Build your own taco situation; skillet full enough for five with two tortillas. Saw our server twice, to take the order and to pay the bill.

We wanted to love this place so much more but unfortunately it left us wanting. The wait staff is very nice, The ambience is so endearing/local and gives a great vibe (but they forgot(?) that this is Austin and summer? the whole place does not have an AC, sure you want to keep the homely eclectic vibe maybe but do something about the heat - mist fans maybe?). The menu is super amazing, we were so excited to see such wonderfully different choices (compared to a lot of other Mexican places) but that is where it stops. The food is just average in taste :( and we wished so much that it would have been better. The Sallops a la veracruzana were likely the only thing that we liked/was better than average. The pollo sopecitos were ok ok and the red snapper tacos were also kind of average. The food was not bad as in we had it but was nothing to rave about or go back to. Still wish somehow that they could do better with how the food tastes.

Pretty massive disappointment. The salsa, chips, and house margaritas were good. Most of the several dishes we tried were between bad and mediocre. But worst was the service. Our waiter went missing for tens of minutes at a time then forgot completely about what he was supposed to bring us. the other waitperson in our section was around much of the time and helped us a few times while our guy was MIA but to be clear he never mentioned having to be away, told us to deal with his colleague, or apologized for ignoring us.

Good place to eat, I recommend the Guachinango tikinchic (with pibil), the service a little slow but generally good, I only had the bad experience of ordering a huarache with marrow and I got a piece of plastic hidden under the huarache (of course it They deducted from my account), I know it is a human error but they must work on providing a dish without those types of errors, in general good, the parking is paid and there were many mosquitoes outside where they sat us, at a competitive regular price although I wouldnt consider it cheap.

Had a great time! The vibes are awesome and the outdoor area is super immersive. There are a lot of food options, as well as vegetarian which is nice (also noted with a V). All of the food was interesting and overall it was a great experience I would recommend. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian dishes labeled with V, and a good amount of options (not on entree menu, but the portions of the other menu sections are filling.) Parking: Must search for pay to park street parking, wasnt too hard to find a spot but depends on time of day and day of week of course. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly ! Wheelchair accessibility: There are stairs to enter, and you have to go up and down a bit to get to the back. There are tables on the ground before the stairs out front, so someone in a wheelchair could sit there, but possibly not be able to access the restroom.

Our last night in Austin we decided to walk down to Lichas for a late light dinner. The atmosphere was so fun and interesting. A house has been transformed to a restaurant and all the different rooms inside are turned into seating areas and they had so many outdoor tables as well. Our server was so friendly and we werent starving so we ordered light and asked her for recommendations. App - ESQUITE (V) Main - PESCADO Y CAMARÓN PIBIL (fish tacos) Both dishes were so good. The fish tacos came highly recommended by our server and they were the best fish tacos Ive ever had. The snapper and shrimp together with the charred veggies was so good. The tacos come out like a fajita skillet and you build your own tacos. Loved this! The vibe, the environment, the food, everything was great. We didnt have a reservation and we were there at about 8pm but Im not sure if we could have just walked up and gotten a table earlier than that. Make a reservation if you want to ensure youre outside or dont want to wait. Great spot in East Austin!

A more than generous order with pickled vegetables and fresh Pico. Couldnt finish the tortillas. I ate all of the lengua!!language!!! Soft on the inside with a crispy bite on the exterior. It was literally like eating a meat taffy. So soft but chewable, flavor was beefy but seasoned to perfection. Amazing and highly recommended. Sat outside under the trees with an exterior fan. Unique. I typically do not write reviews (especially negative ones) but I was excited to come here based so on the reviews and menu but sadly there was nothing about this place that was good. Horrible food and the rudest service from the hostess I ve ever encountered. I was told there would be a 30 minute wait and over an hour later when I asked for an update was told that this is what happens when you walk in and to just leave if I didn t like waiting. Seriously, this is how you treat customers?!?

Me and my partner chose this restaurant to celebrate New Year s Eve. Unfortunately it turned out to be a disaster for us both. The atmosphere and the service was top notch, the food tasted good and was delivered within a few minutes of ordering but the food gave me and my partner an allergic reaction. I am not allergic to anything. Both of us felt extremely sleepy after eating and my partner developed a rash the next day. Essentially making us sleep not even making to the next year awake. What is more disappointing is that I left this feedback on their website to give a chance for them to explain this however it s been over 3 months and neither acknowledgement nor any reply from the team. Very disappointing.

Its been so long since Ive visited Austin. We were looking to place to eat lunch when Lichas was suggested. I had never heard of it but love trying new places. While trying to find this place we ended up walking between questionable alleys. We finally found the place but ended up in the back of the restaurant. What I saw definitely showed this place is legit. There were about 5 -6 older latin ladies that looked like my aunts cooking in what looked like original pots and pans used in ranchos in Mexico. The ladies were very welcoming and guided us to the inside of the restaurant. The restaurant itself used to be a house that looks like a house I used to live in when I was a kid. The music playing can only be described as eclectic latin music and I mean that in a good way. We ordered the enchiladas de mole verde con carnitas, we also got huaraches de Pollo en mole rojo, and a quesadilla de calabazitas. I could go on and on about the layers of flavors in each dish but Ill just say if you are in austin and wanted elevated authentic Mexican food, this is it. The atmosphere and food at Lichas cant be described, it has to be experienced. Shout out to my wonderful waiter with the cool hair style.

For all the hype, there are a million better places to go. It all started with the salsa at the beginning. Both were so spicy you couldnt even enjoy them. I understand one spicy salsa, but two that were both unenjoyable seems excessive. The drinks were weak and devoid of flavor. We tried three different drinks, and all just tasted like their respective alcohol over ice topped with water. In additional, anything that wasnt the overly spicy salsa was so bland. I had a covid scare because I couldnt taste my chicken tinga. Turns out it was just bland cooking and was not limited to the chicken tinga, every main dish at our table suffered the same lack of flavor. To top it off, the service was mediocre at best. Sauces were forgotten several times, incorrect drink orders were delivered and the steak on one dish was severely undercooked. It couldnt even be cut it was so raw. It looked more like tartar than steak on the taco shell. I really went in wanting to love this place, but it is a classic tourist trap.

Used to be $5 margaritas and some food options made this place a great affordable place to start the evening. Drinks in HH are now $8 and food prices raised. I know things have gotten pricier for businesses but think this was is a bit high for what we got. Service was great. Place is fun. Just will avoid HH and come for normal dinner when we are in town.

The restaurant was very busy with large groups of people headed into the bar and sitting in the outdoor dining areas. When we were seated, we were given chips and salsa. We ordered the octopus appetizer, I got the fish tacos (pibil de pescado y camaron), and my husband got the anchiota braised pork (cochinita pibil). We were then told that they were out of the octopus, and we hurriedly ordered the seafood cocktail instead. Our entrees came out very quickly, and they were so good. I would describe the pork as a mix between a mole and Cincinnati chili, but if that puts you off, Im probably describing it wrong. The fish was perfectly cooked. We needed extra tortillas, but our waiter got some for us quickly. The appetizer came after our food, which is understandable. I didnt like the seafood cocktail at all. It was essentially a mix of cold seafood in tomato and shrimp cocktail sauce, served with avocado and tostada shells. I found the shrimp to be especially chewy and off-putting. That being said, I think this is a somewhat traditional dish, and its probably up to personal tastes, and if we hadnt ordered it, the food would have been perfect. The location suffered only in that it was somewhat loud, but the decorations were fun and reflective of Austin culture.

Great experience here after we had a mishap at another restaurant around the corner. We stumbled upon Lichas just walking and are so glad we did. Cant wait to come back here next time were in Austin. The food was absolutely delicious! They were out of what I wanted, but our waiter was quick to suggest something similar and even offered to have it be made the way of the original dish I wanted. 10/10 would recommend.

Food was good with authentic flavors, but prices have gone through the roof since the last time we ate here. Whats with only two tortillas? Seriously? The chilorio plate was $22! Distributor prepared guacamole? East Austin is not only bougie, but screams bougie prices. Probably still some authentic Mexican restaurants somewhere in Austin that serve the same fare for half the price with handmade tortillas and give you half a dozen with your plate. If you want real chilorio, got to Picos in Houston, a $$$ Mexican restaurant where the chilorio plate is $13 for twice as much, includes fresh avocado, handmade tortillas and fresh pico. Ask the waiter for a side of pickled onions for no charge. Youd still have ten dollars left over for a limonada con soda and a side of refritos negros. Sorry Lichas...

We came to Lichas late (like 10pm), tired, and so hungry after a wet walk all the way from dirty 6th. We sat at the bar and the bartenders could not have been nicer or cooler guys. The food was so good! The queso was amazing, and I had a chicken quesadilla, which was also delicious. I cant remember what my friends had, but I know they both really enjoyed what they ordered. Margaritas were also top notch!

Great little East Austin dive. The food was exceptional and had great flavors. Its not your usual Tex Mex and has was a great change from the normal austin mexixan. My only complaint was that there is no A/C and it was 103 degrees.... there are plenty of fans with mist that made it bearable, I just wouldnt have worn jeans if I had known. But overall it was great and well be back again.

Because of urban location, it gets full starting about 5pm then gets really loud inside and outside. Small location so youll have to be comfortable being close to neighboring tables. Excellent service. Food is good but not the best or most traditional if thats what youre looking for.

Great location, atmosphere, staff, and food (of course). Traditional/vintage paintings and art cover the walls and there is great indoor and outdoor seating with good music playing. Tried the Birria Tacos and they re the best I ve had in Austin so far. For a city that isn t San Antonio or close to the border this is as authentic as it gets. Pair that with a full bar and an attentive and friendly wait staff and this place is an easy 5 stars. Dog friendly, too!

We arrived to Austin Friday and fasted to eat at this spot. Just in time for happy hour!! We devoured the chips and salsa. Both sauces were tasty. After so much indecision we decided to go with the sopesitos from the hh menu. The waiter asked for what type of protein, I said beef. Well, it was amazing!!! I ve never tried such tender beef. We devoured it!!! After a few minutes out waiter came back to check and asked, What did you guys think about the lengua (tongue) sopes? . Anyway, The happy hour margaritas were delish. The others, watered down. Tons of mosquitoes so sit inside!! We enjoyed our meal and drinks. Total damage $85 we ordered two reposado tequilas at the end. Oh I forgot to mention that the music at lichas made my whole experience even bettaaa- love the rock en español muchachos!

One of my favorites and great food but had a weird experience the last time there. We came in late, about 30 minutes before closing. As closing time got closer they started taking items off our table such as our water glasses, decore and other items as we were still eating. We felt very rushed. Maybe a suggestion is to limit the reservations to an hour before closing if you re trying to close right on time. We didn t know your closing time and just made the reservation we saw online. If someone made your 10:45 reservation would they only have 15 minutes to eat? Maybe you just had some anxious employees not following policy? Still one of my favorite places to eat but the last experience wasn t great.

If you haven t tried Licha s goat birria, you re missing out. They re mouth watering good. Drinks are amazing, even better during happy hour. Cute spot, but dock 1 star due to lack of proper ventilation and A/C. Great place to hang out with close friends when everyone knows what they re getting into. Not great to take your out of town friends to during peak summer or winter days.

Weve been here a couple of times and had a great experience, the vibe is lively both inside and out, service is attentive and helpful, and of course youre given generous tortilla chips as soon as you sit down or while you wait if theres a wait (and theyre delicious). We especially love the Sopecitos Aguacate, generous with the avocado and something wed never had before! Also nice to have a veggie option good enough for my carnivorous wife to order it! Highly recommend :) Vegetarian options: Sopecitos Aguacate are wonderful! And veggie options are well labeled

Great drinks, low-mid food. We ordered esquite it was flavorless. The guacamole was just avocado with some queso. We ordered sopitos de tinga (not great), lengua (sad), and pibil (good flavor). Posole was salty, the tacos de asada were good but the tortilla felt and tasted like rubber. Service was horrible (the gentleman with a bun raised his voice when we asked if we could split the bill, and clearly was annoyed that we even asked). The ONLY redeemable quality were the drinks. If you like quality Tex mex food stay away from this place cause you ll end up paying for an overpriced and terrible experience.
