LOVED comedor! visited by myself while on a work trip for my first time in austin and was entirely pleased! super excited to find out the menu is 100% naturally gluten free and mostly local my server joshua was really pleasant and patient with me as i decided what to order and chef philip even spared a few minutes to chat with me ginger repo cocktail , bone marrow tacos, carrots, crudo, and smoked fish beautiful interior and silverware (lol) my only complaint was that i dined alone and wasnt able to try more of the menu ! Dietary restrictions: 100% gluten free

I found Comedor intriguing. It was hard to find at night, but I thought that made the place even cooler. Once you get inside, the open-space minimalist decor is very enchanting. The food was underwhelming. The cocktails were good but a tad overpriced. I would go back for appetizers and a couple of drinks. Loved the avocado tostadas. The NY strip was a miss.

Eating at Comedor is a great experience. Be ready to try new flavors, combinations and ingredients. The buttermilk tamale was my favorite while my husband loved the bone marrow tacos. Service was outstanding, we were pampered from beginning to end and truly enjoyed the Chef s recommendations on how the dishes should be enjoyed.

Whether at a table or sitting at the bar, youll surely receive amazing service. Comedor showcases some of the best elevated Mexican cuisines with a well crafted menu. A must try are the bone marrow tacos! I have dreams about them, and if youd like a great deal, theyre offered on the happy hour menu for a great price. The happy hour is surprisingly filled with great deals, and Im worried about spreading the word, but they deserve the praise! If you sit at the bar, I highly recommend asking the bartender for a mezcal tasting. It comes with some interesting critters for an authentic experience and the opportunity to learn about the best brands. Kid-friendliness: We hosted out of town guests and had to bring them here. We celebrated our birthdays and were given off menu items for their 2 year old. He loved it

My wife and I recently spent a weekend in Austin and stumbled upon Comedor. The space is dark, sophisticated, and minimalist, evoking the ambiance of Michelin-starred spots in Barcelona (like Hermanos Torres) or Tokyo (such as Florilège). We chose to sit at the bar, where the attentive waitstaff took excellent care of us. The drinks were superb, and the food was exceptional. We particularly enjoyed the okra, bone marrow tacos, and chicken tacos. While I cant recall the name of the dessert, it was the only part of the meal that fell short of the high standard set by the rest of the experience. Overall, this was one of the most memorable meals weve had in a long time. We will definitely return the next time were in Austin, and we highly recommend Comedor to anyone visiting the city.

Great ambiance, friendly service and good food albeit we needed our waiter to break down pretty much every single item on the menu as we didn t know what more than half the items were lol and I m trilingual and a foodie :) Great okra dish, the ceviche was fresh and delicious as well. Lovely radicchio salad with peaches. Patatas bravas were super deep fried, didnt care for them. The NY strip had a wonderful sauce but the meat itself was too fatty for my taste. The margaritas were weak to our surprise like barely any taste of reposado and grand mariner, so weak that they kindly offered to make me a new one and albeit it was slightly better but than the first version, it sadly missed the mark. I would go back for the salad and the okra.

If youre looking for a dining experience that ticks all the boxes, this restaurant is a must-visit. The food is simply exceptional each dish bursting with flavor and creativity. The drink menu is equally impressive, offering a range of carefully crafted options that perfectly complement the meal. What truly sets this place apart, though, is the staff. They don t just serve you; they genuinely connect with you, making you feel like a valued guest rather than just a customer. Their attentive and friendly service is a standout feature, reflecting a commitment to top-notch customer care. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, with an ambiance that s both elegant and inviting. From the moment you walk in, you re enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Overall, this dining spot excels in every aspect remarkable food, fantastic drinks, exceptional service, and a stunning environment. It s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy, and truly feel appreciated. Parking: There is plenty of paid street parking or theres a parking garage next door thats $10.

Comedor came highly recommended by many, but I was very disappointed with my experience. From the difficulty of finding the location to the overpriced menu items that dont justify their cost considering the taste, it was not worth the hype. The only aspect that met my expectations was the ambiance. However, I dont want to pay an exorbitant amount for great ambiance when the food and service are just average. Just a heads up, the place is hard to find. The entrance is almost hidden behind a wall, and we had to circle around 2-3 times to locate it.

Everything on their menu is excellent . The desserts are fabulous and I love the non alcohol cocktails. I am a really good cook but there is no way I could make the original ,creative and beautiful dishes Ive had at the Comedor. Oh and the service is spectacular. The masa they use for the tortillas is like I used to get in Mexico City when my parents would take us to the finest restuarants.

The vibe was on point too, the bartenders were so friendly and talkative. The reviews for this place are unfair, mainly the hard to find , just follow google maps? This is my second visit, primarily due to the high ratings (though Im not sure why) and the tendency for people to be drawn to positive reviews. The menu is difficult to read; at our table, we could only decipher about half the words. The food is overly fancy, seemingly for the sake of being fancy, and lacks flavor. This is a restaurant that prioritizes prestige, expensive ingredients, and presentation over actually satisfying its customers. Youll easily spend hundreds of dollars here, only to immediately seek out the nearest fast food. Although they claim everything is family-style, the dishes are surprisingly difficult to share. For instance, the half chicken is literally that half a chicken so I hope you have decent butchering skills. Additionally, the setting sun was blinding and uncomfortable.

Comedor in downtown Austin is an absolute gem. As a frequent visitor, I can confidently say that this restaurant has something for everyone, and it never disappoints. The ambiance is simply stunning, making it an ideal spot for any occasion, whether it s a date night, a business meeting, a solo dinner at the bar, or a lovely evening out with the family. One of my favorite places to sit is at the bar, especially when Toby, Seth, and TK are working. These bartenders are not just skilled in their craft; they are also fun, knowledgeable, and incredibly welcoming. They always make my visits enjoyable and memorable. Comedors menu is impressive, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences. I find it phenomenal that everything is gluten-free, except for one dessert item the churro. This means Im not limited to only a few menu items, which is fantastic since I personally have to eat gluten-free. Additionally, they source only the finest ingredients from local farms, which is why their menu changes often, keeping things fresh and exciting. For those who prefer non-alcoholic beverages, the selection is excellent. I love their creative non-alcoholic cocktails; theyre unique and delicious. During my last visit, I enjoyed a non-alcoholic bottle of sparkling rosé. It was awesome to enjoy a wine-like experience with dinner, especially since I was dining with my kids and had to drive half an hour home. Their cocktails are also not to be missed if youre in the mood for a drink each one crafted to perfection. Although Comedor might not be specifically designed for kids, the dishes are versatile and can easily be enjoyed by younger diners, especially if you have the toppings held or served on the side to suit your child s preferences. My kids, for instance, love the fish tacos, the chicken, and the papas (fried potatoes). These dishes, with their simple and delicious flavors, are always a hit. They also always enjoy the aguas frescas. As for my personal favorites, they tend to evolve as the menu changes, but currently, I cant get enough of the avocado tostada, the quesadilla, the chicken, the potatoes, and the pavlova. These are my favorite dishes from the current offerings, and every one of them is exceptional. The chicken is a standout a true sleeper hit that I highly recommend. Most dishes are designed to share, but I recommend getting your own pavlova for dessert. Its the perfect end to a delightful dinner and I find myself always wishing I had ordered one just for myself, as Im scraping every last bit from the bowl. Overall, everything at Comedor is delicious, and the space is beautiful. Whether youre looking for a relaxed solo dinner at the bar or a delightful family outing, Comedor in downtown Austin is the place to be. Vegetarian options: The avocado tostada and the papas (potatoes) are some of my favorite items, and theyre vegetarian. Other vegetarian items include the salad, Carrot Tamal, Buttermilk Tamal (get it without shrimp), Quesadilla, Enfrijoladas, and the HH veggie tacos Dietary restrictions: Everything on the menu is gluten-free (except for one dessert item)! Kid-friendliness: My kids love the fish tacos (without the toppings), the chicken, and the potatoes (I get the toppings on the side because one of my kids likes the potatoes plain). They also love the aguas frescas!

This used to be my favorite restaurant in Austin but after last night im not planing to go back again. We were shown to our table by hostess Sarah who was not particularly friendly from the start. When I sat down with my guest she interrupted our conversation to tell me that I was not allowed to finish the bottle of water I was holding in my hand. I explained to her that there was not just water but there was a medicine in it and i just had few sips left - she told me that I needed to go outside to finish and stood over the table to make sure I didnt continue drinking. So I did leave the table to finish. After being talked down to and treated so unkindly I didnt feel like I would enjoy my meal at Comedor. We ended up leaving and going to another place for dinner. I talked to the other hostess on the way out but she didnt say anything all and just let us leave. It is very sad to see this restaurant decline like that.

I am not sure why this restaurant is not higher than a 4.4. I thought the food was absolutely amazing. I had the corn tamal with street corn and shrimp. The shrimp were so fresh, sweet, and full of flavor. Some of the best Ive had. The tamal was made like no ordinary one and the street corn was sweet and fresh. For dessert, I had the chocolate tamal (so different) with a milk ice cream and amaranth. Again, a dessert like no other. Service was impeccable. My server (guy with the beard-forgot his name) was helpful, entertaining, and made the whole experience unforgettable. He gave me some mezcal limoncello that he has been playing around with. Told me it goes perfectly with the dessert and he was right. Will definitely be back when visiting again.

Meh. At the best, meh. At the worst, disappointing, a wee bit pretentious and very not worth it. We scheudled a work dinner here, with the idea of a wonderful treat for our colleagues and a couple clients; a group of 9 people, so not huge. Please see pics of the food as it is pretty food, good quality ingredients and what seems to be thoughtful preparation. But here is the thing - it doesnt taste that good. The exception to that and two DELICIOUS items were the papas frites and the queasdilla = those were so so good and the first things to come out so I thought we were in for a good meal. I will also say the Beet Happening with some tequila was SUCH A GOOD DRINK!!! But the fish tacos are GROSS, dry fish, dry hard shells, a sad piece of odd flavord cabbage - nope. The bone marrow tacos were also disappointing as there was a surpirising lack of flavor. The cabbage mushroom dish was so oddly flavored and the poor oyster mushrooms in the dish had been tortured as part of the prep,,,they were bouncy and chewy and weird tasting. We also had two desserts - a molten cake/ice cream balls dessert that was legit offputting and a pavlova dessert that had a small portion under it that was kinda good but it was just not something you really wanted to eat. The kicker for me may have been the service...or the chef, i am not sure where the root of the problem is. The service was SO SLOW and when we requested things, they were not accomodating. The server was almost argumentatively pretentious. We had someone at the table that wasnt into the para la table items coming out (Which may i note, very little to any of the food listed MATCHED the descriptions?!?!) so we reqeusted to please bring him a filet so he could eat with us. And the servers argued with us The Chef prefers everyone at the table eat at the same time the same things - do what? We said please just bring him a steak and ONE HOUR LATER, they brought out TWO 46 oz steaks for the table. Again, do what? The chef prefers to force us to buy two giant steaks??? Everyone left the meal extremely disatisfied and feeling a little robbed...there was SO MUCH STEAK brought out, that we had it packaged up and gave it away to a homeless person because the waste was gross. And the cost was grosser. The atmosphere is very neat and the look is cool. It was REALLY REALLY cold in the restaraunt and near the end, everyone was uncomfortable. Maybe heaters or blankets? To another reviewers note, the building is black, the door is black, the sign is black, so it is very easy to miss. Not well thought out in that regard, or maybe just more pretention. Regardless, I will never be back here - there are too many way better places in Austin to eat. I also took the liberty of sharing with the mutliple conference groups we have as Austin is a regular conference place to make note to avoid this spot for any dinners with clients - poor expereience all around, you do NOT want to take customers here.

We were slow in giving Comedor a try. Weve thought about dining here a few times over the last few years, but never did. We regret that now as after trying this wonderful restaurant for the first time just a couple of weeks ago it has become one of our favorites in Austin. Food (5 of 5) -- every thing we have tried on the menu has been excellent and unique. Here are some of our favorites: Memela -- brand new this week and not yet on the menu. The most beautiful dish, which is surprisingly as delicious as it is beautiful. The spread of refried beans (?) with bone marrow, chorizo made with ribeye and the colorful fresh vegetables were so good, that we immediately just ordered another one. Steak tartare -- not currently on the menu, but sometimes still available as a special. The one time we had it as a special, it was phenomenal with exceptionally well balanced yet complex flavors with just the right sprinkling of spices and caviar Sunchoke -- weve had this a few times prepared in a couple of different ways; all of which were excellent. Our favorite was the Sunchoke, Masa Tempura, Salsa Pasilla Fermentada, Grilled Lemon Aioli. Ensalada -- unique blend of flavors of clearly very fresh ingredients. The quest Chiapas buttermilk on this salad is a wonderful paring with the rest of the flavors of this salad including the pork belly. Service (5) -- hands down the best service we have had in Austin and some of the best service we have had anywhere. Attentive, but not overly so and the staff work so well together as a team. Ambiance (5) -- the outdoor patio is beautiful and so well done with the interior courtyard providing ample protection from wind and late afternoon or evening sun. The overall design aesthetic here is, for our preference, ideal.

Great service and atmosphere but food is nothing crazy and falls short of the price tag slapped on it. The frisée salad isn t actually frisée but romaine lettuce chunk and resembled the American blue cheese wedge salad more than the French frisée aux lardons. Crudo was good, but then again at $25 you get a tiny portion. Main courses were impressive in size but nothing special as far as tastes goes. If you always wanted to try bone marrow but the concept and taste prevent you then this may be the place as the marrow is so seasoned you can t really taste the marrow. Churro desert was fantastic. He gave great insight to the menu, highlighted vegan options for the people in the group (even double checked with the kitchen). Timing of service was spot on. The food is served in a family style format. Portions do look small at first but they are full of flavor. The avocado tostada was the perfect starting dish. Along with the tostada, we also ordered the papas fritas, sunchoke, fish tacos, broccochile, the quesadilla, and the churro for dessert. Evidently some Austin restaurants are adding such a thing now, but this one seems excessive. You should compensate your staff adequately and have the prices reflect that so that your customers are aware upfront what a meal choice is going to cost them. What a joke of a restaurant. Went there with a large group and had arranged for a set menu. The food was average, and we were given portions to share - like, 3 quesadillas for starter, 8 tacos for mains, and 2 desert bowls for a table of 8. It was so ridiculous that we all thought it was a prank with a hidden camera! When we complained to waiters at the end of the menu that we were all still very hungry, despite spending more than $100 per person, we got the manager s email scribbled on a paper napkin. We were supposed to chew on it I guess Long story short: we spend a lot of money for a very small amount of average food, and were happy to find another open restaurant when we left. Total ripoff.

Nice atmosphere, great service, large drink menu, fantastic drinks. Strange somewhat limited menu with cryptic descriptions that are really hard to understand what youre ordering. Not sure how one would describe any of this food as Mexican style? Dont fall for the family style portion sizes as this place has the smallest portion sizes for most of the items on the menu and most resemble nothing close to family size. In fact, that was the big joke all night about the limited portion sizes and the fact we all planned to go out to eat after the meal to not still feel hungry. What we did have was somewhat tasty, but for the extremely high cost and portion size we all left thinking this is a one time event. Too bad the focus is more on being overly eclectic (pretentious) rather than overly satisfying. I guess if you watch a lot of fancy cooking shows on TV this will be a place for you.

Our server (Nate P), was arrogant, rude, and a real downer on the evening. Despite that, we still gave him a 20% tip. The final bill came to $700, which was a surprise since there were 2 kids and the alcohol intake by the other 4 was minimal. They also added on a healthcare surcharge to cover the cost of their employees health insurance. A real kick in the nuts after having a poor experience and an over priced meal. Taking Comedor off of my recommended list. Lots of other options in Austin where the servers will add to. the experience and not take way from it.

Orchard fire: it is good but the pear and cinnamon weren t as pronounced Worth the Squeeze: it had crushed ice in addition to big ice cubes. It was just ok Secret Garden with Gin added: it tasted like a mild Moscow mule. Didn t really taste the coconut Snapper Tostada: bad. The crab was fishy and you couldn t taste the snapper Bone marrow: we got the HH version, there was barely any marrow on those bones (this is not the restaurant fault by any means) but the bed of kale that the bones were served over was to die for!! I think they should offer kale tacos! Crudo: it was very good Comote: it was good Tacos de Pescado: had great texture with the cabbage, it was good Lengua tacos: it was amazing!! the tongue was so moist, the star of the meal Mussels: they were dry without the sauce and just ok with the sauce and everything else Papas Fritas: the verde mole was great! We really enjoyed them Tamal de Chocolate: tasted a little bit burnt, maybe this is how it supposed to be

My wife and I happened upon Comedor as we were traipsing around downtown, so we stopped in for cocktails and a snack. The front door blends in with its surroundings, so it gives you that exclusive feeling. The decor is so appealing, very upscale and sexy. The staff is extremely welcoming and attentive. The cocktails were expertly crafted and every ingredient was celebrated in the food. I d recommend stopping in for happy hour, as it s a lot easier on the wallet. But Comedor is everything you d want out of a high end, intimate, and relaxing experience.

I ve been to Comedor more than 5 times, I love the atmosphere here SO much! The drinks were amazing, my favorite is beets happening - mezcal sooo good! Service was great, and most of the time we got walked in welcome (party of 2) so it s kinda convenient for us. The grilled carrot was really good but lately it has changed. I think I had whole grilled carrots which better than cut one, awhile ago. I had octopus couple and it s pretty good love it! Overall everything pretty good, always enjoyed the time here.

I went here on a rainy day and almost couldn t find it. The sign to the building is not really that clear and on a dark day at night time you can miss it, so just pay attention. I think they have a pretty decent happy hour so if you wanna try it out but don t wanna spend the amount of money for like the regular dinner menu, Definitely go during happy hour. Overall, I definitely think that it s very expensive and the food is just OK. It wasn t fantastic but our server was really nice really polite and loved to give us you his thoughts on things on the menu. (Which I love). They recommend you do family style I m so basically share everything which I think is actually the best way to go about it. I think the chicken was actually really good. The bone marrow was OK. I was expecting more flavor and I just didn t get that. Overall, I would go there again, but mostly for happy hour and not for like a full dinner.

My fist visit and surely not my last at Comedor! My sister was in town visiting and we were in the mood for drinks and bites while catching up. It was raining and Monday, and finding parking downtown is always a challenge. The adjacent garage with valet parking was perfect. ($12). I m glad I was with my sister, who s son works there and had been before or I might have missed the entrance. The matte black metal door tucked into a corner is subtle and easy to miss. Once inside, the focus is the back wall; incredible selection of spirits; tequilas and mezcals. Behind the liquor shelving, a glass brick wall obscures the street view but allows natural light through. I found it really relaxing watching the light change as the sun set, the staff placing small candles along the shelves creating an intimate feel. The bar runs nearly the length of the long, rectangular seating area, the seating was solid and comfortable, and even with a large group of maybe 18 folks behind us, my sister and I could converse without yelling. The room has tons of natural light thanks to the wall of floor to ceiling (a very high ceiling too!) windows looking out to an atrium for outdoor seating. It would be really fun to have a it booked for a private party. Our bar server Mason, was adorable, very professional, and made the best margaritas! We both picked the same one, The Comedor margarita and I enjoyed watching him expertly shake them to perfection. I could have enjoyed a few more but had a long drive ahead so I focused on the food instead. Oh what incredible food! Everything is served small plate style for sharing, artfully presented with enough per order to enjoy but not be bored by the last bite. The unique recipes created with incredibly fresh ingredients made each bite memorable. We had the oysters on the half shell (2 per order), not something I normally would order but was glad I tried. So fresh, with a hint of brine and savory flavors. Then we had an unusual dish; several pieces of (seaweed?) lightly fried earthyness, hiding two each of delicately prepared sushi style fish that melted in the mouth, all swirled in an incredible (watermelon?) smooth salsa sauce that if there had been bread I d have mopped the bowl clean. Next we feasted on the bone marrow tacos .oh yes please! The most tender red corn tortillas served along with two large beef bones atop lightly dressed and warmed kale, garnished with red onion. This was outstanding! I ve made bone marrow before and this was expertly prepared and not something to miss. We also had (3 large) the taquito style taco plate,(3 per) served with another sauce that we couldn t get enough. Very delicious! Slowing down,an order of the mild yet soothing hot lemongrass and ginger tea was perfect with our two desserts. Dessert one: A very large cup of rich cafe de Olla, topped with a creamy, lightly sweet dulce de lecha whipped (mouse?) concoction (I d take a bowl of that, please!) and finished with a stout churro nestled inside the rim of the cup. I ll admit the churro was a challenge to break apart for sharing. Being sturdy enough to require more than a spoon, it floated on the cream; not absorbing the hot coffee below, remaining crispy. I ended up taking it home, and every last cinnamon sugar coated morsel was consumed. The gorgeous, creamy Dulce de leche was the star of that dessert in my opinion. Dessert 2; Two unassuming spheres, approx 2 in diameter. One coated in a colorful mix of sesame seeds artfully protecting the extraordinary fresh churned Carmel ice cream beneath. TIP: Scoop the ice cream onto your spoon then scoop some from the other sphere; a super dark, barely sweetened, rich, dense, chocolate fudge meets a brownie type confection with a warm Carmel surprise center. Combing the three flavors onto one spoonful was a delicious experience and lovely way to end the meal. Thank you Comedor!

I recently dined at Comedor, and it was nothing short of a culinary delight. The modern ambiance sets the stage for an exceptional dining experience, complete with attentive service and a well-curated menu. What truly sets this restaurant apart, though, is its remarkable selection of tequila. From top-shelf to unique artisanal options, the variety was impressive and offered something for both the casual sipper and the tequila connoisseur. The food was exquisite, marrying traditional flavors with contemporary flair. The dishes were plated beautifully, and every bite was a fusion of rich, balanced tastes. Whether it was the starters or the main courses, everything was cooked to perfection. The staff were knowledgeable and enthusiastic, making thoughtful recommendations for both food and tequila pairings. They took the time to explain the nuances of each tequila, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to the meal. Overall, Comedor offers a top-tier dining experience, and their extraordinary tequila selection elevates it even further. Five stars all around; this place is a must-visit for anyone seeking an upscale yet approachable culinary experience. Designed by architect Tom Kundig and led by chefs Gabe Erales and Philip Speer.

Disappointed. Great space, friendly staff but the food was mediocre at best. Crudo - was probably the best of the night but it was nothing special Avocado Tostada - taco itself was quite hard, not very flavorful Smoked Fish Taquitos - terrible. The fish tasted super dry, the taco wrap was so thick, hard and crunchy that my teeth started to hurt from trying to chew through everything. Couldn t even finish this dish Okra / Charred Corn - had to order this to wash down the terrible taquitos. Overall taste was decent with a size-able portion but was a bit too tart to my personal taste. Agua Fresca - tasted watered down Overall dining experience was unmemorable. I m grateful that the staff comped the okra dish but even that couldn t save how disappointed I was with this meal. Maybe the mains were better but if this is the state of the appetizers I m afraid to even order the main dishes. Sadly this had been a recommended spot but unfortunately won t be coming back.

The entrance is pretty hard to find, as the name of the restaurant is written in black on black bricks, and the place does not look at all like a restaurant from the outside. We initially made a reservation to stay in the patio as it is extremely cute, unfortunately though they do not have any type of cooling system (other than some ventilators, which just blow hot air around), which made it feel like a sauna with the Austin heat of July. Luckily the waiters were very nice and they moved us inside. As main dishes we had the ensalada de verano, the octopus, and the carrots. The salad was very good, and the octopus was very well cooked, though very small. The carrots were cold and very spicy, even though we asked recommendations for non-spicy food, as we really did not like it. Lastly, as dessert we had the tamal de chocolate, which for some reason was extremely salty and not enjoyable even though the ice cream that came with it was very good. Overall I would not recommend this as the price/quality ratio for the dinner was not worth it. The staff is very nice, but the dishes are not very good, perhaps a bad night.

I would not recommend this place at all. The waiters were nice but the dishes where not good overall. The price/quality balance is really off and there was no dish that was memorable. The portions are really small for the price you pay. Also, they told us every dish had his own story and was served separately but we got two dishes at a time, which made one of the dishes be cold. Also we said we did not like spicy and we got recommended a dish that was too spicy to be eaten and could not enjoy it at all. Also, the dessert tamal de chocolate was so salty that it was hard to eat. I would not recommend this place at all, perhaps we were really unlucky with the dishes. Also, the outside patio is like a sauna and it is impossible to eat there with the Austin heat.

It has a wanky upper class charm and a good place to go for a date, but the menu is extremely obtuse, unclear and gives no idea of how substantial the dishes are. They are quite tiny for the price. I ordered the octopus and it was a beautifully cooked single tentacle with delicious sauce but it didnt even come close to filling me up. It wasnt even a snack, which for nearly $30 I didnt expect. Cocktails were well mixed and delicious which for the price should be expected. You cant go wrong with the ambiance; outside water misters or inside A/C, sleek design style. Next, to the food: Every dish we tasted was divine and presented without flaws. The management staff and servers made it a point to greet us and speak intelligently about the food. Its refreshing when the wait staff explains a dish thoroughly, so you know what youre ordering, yet youre still surprised when you taste it. Every selection had unique flavors. The small plate option is excellent for sharing, and plenty of food, but you dont feel stuffed. Upscale but not intimidating. We had a child who could order a kid-friendly dish off the menu. Mezcal cocktails married well with the myriad of different components in each dish.

We felt pressured multiple times to keep ordering and you know whah happened. 3 of the last dishes we didn t even touch just immediately had to box up. We were oversold and it felt icky. For spending over $500 before tip we felt a little just bamboozled by the service. We were also sat near the servers meeting point but the POS and we caught one of the servers just spitting on the floor. Im not against that but like, maybe take that to Colorado or 5th street? Maybe not on the patio where guests are spending a pretty penny to eat. The Tuna Aguachile, Fish Tacos, Bone Marrow Tacos and Ribs were delicious! Thank god at least the food held up to my hype! The food was good, the service decent, and restaurant looked cool, but it was very loud and I don t think worth the high price tag. By sharing plates, they meant sharing for two people

It s a very seclusion restaurant (like it doesn t look like the restaurant at all from outside) and the entrance is hard to find. I like how private it feels but some people find it pretty confusing. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. They offered a few tables for us to choose from and we picked one of the high tops close to the bar counter. We went there for dinner and the menu is more on the pricey end - almost NYC level. However, the restaurant does give an energetic and fun vibe. All the cocktails we tried were great and they were pretty generous on the portion when I ordered shots of don julio 1942. Things I didn t like much about this place: 1) due to the design of the building, it gets very noisy and loud. Not a quiet date night experience. 2) it s too dark at nights. I d recommend them to turn more lights on during the dinner time Overall a fun experience and I d still recommend everyone to go at least once.

We didnt have a reservation, but we showed up early, and the hostess graciously showed us to a table for two. We were in Dallas for a 2-day business trip and opted to try appetizers at several highly recommended spots. Comedor is apparently known for their bone marrow tacos. That sounded delicious so we headed that direction. As far as the atmosphere goes, this place was one of the cooler spots we visited. It was industrial yet quaint and romantic. Our server was sharp, highly educated about the menu, and was quick to offer suggestions when we asked. As much as we wanted the bone marrow tacos, we couldnt stomach the price, so we opted for charred octopus, the beef tartare, and a tuna aguachili dish. We really enjoyed all three dishes but kicked ourselves for not ordering the bone marrow. Maybe on our next visit....

The staff was a little off putting for my taste, but OMG THE FLAVORS!!! These tacos were SO GOOD. However, I disagree that they were sharable LOL. Overall, the food was DELICIOUS!! However, it is very pricey for the portions you get. Worth a visit, but just be prepared. Vegetarian options: Menu is limited, but there were some options. I recommend looking at the menu before you go to decide if its worth the price.

The best meal I had in Austin! It was such a creative menu and presentation, our table really enjoyed the tuna aguilache, beef tartare, grilled octopus, bone marrow, sundae, and the tajin pavlova. We also got some cocktails and mock tails and thought those were tasty too. Everything was extremely delicious and we had an amazing time eating here. The service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. We definitely will come back again!

I wish these star ratings would let us use the decimals! I d give it a 4.8. I thought the ambiance was lovely. Food was really good, drinks incredible. A little pricey even if it is elevated Mexican. A tostada is still a tostada. However, if I lived closer, I d definitely try more of the menu.

A really fantastic restaurant -- The food and drinks were superb and extremely well thought out, but not overly fancy or with obscure ingredients for no reason. The setting is really nice too and reminded me of some nice places in MX City with the courtyardesque vibe.

I just ate the cochinita pibil taco at Comedor. Its a good thing that the taste eventually faded from my mouth and the smell from my hands, because I didnt want to eat or drink anything that would remove the taste or smell, so I would have eventually starved. Im not one to rave about food Ive eaten, but this was amazing.

Best restaurant ever! Me and my girlfriend came here to celebrate valentines weekend and were shocked by the service and especially the food! Every dish is crafted so beautifully with flavor and presentation. Our server Luis was extremely attentive and had some amazing recommendations. I honestly cannot say anything bad about this place. We have eaten all over the United States but this place takes the cake. If you can get a reservation, I highly recommend!!

Some of the most vile and grotesque behaviour out of GM management I ve seen in a long time. This man berated his staff in front of guests during a busy dinner shift. The attitude from this man was so disgusting, me and my wife left without finishing dinner because the food began to taste really bad for some odd reason - so we left elsewhere. I advise patrons of this establishment to reconsider giving money to an establishment that has no moral oversight.

So disappointing.... recommended by several friends, we eagerly made reservations. parking for $10 a night next door, beautiful building/location, excellent wait staff, including changing a drink because of my preferences The pros stops here. Starters: we had tostadas (or should I say mini tostadas as these were ridiculously small): the avocado one was so weird: avocado spread and two little pieces of broccoli on top ($13) The smoked pescado one had a generous amount of fish on it, but lacked flavor (which would be a theme this evening) except for the price: $16 for a singly tiny tostada. As mains we were interested in steak and lamb. We asked our waitress what she thought of the choice and she mentioned it would be protein heavy and we recommended we order some side. Unfortunately there are no vegetable sides on the menu so we want for the quesadilla : again no spices and $23 for one tortilla (home made i recognized) filled with cheese and beans. At this point i want to emphasize that I am not objecting to hefty prices per say: we did order two main at $70 each. I do not mind paying that much money when the food is delicious, well prepared, well seasoned, and has good portions, but this was not the case. The lamb - wrapped in banana leaves - had few spices and no vegetables, except a few sweet potatoes mixed in - potatoes that themselves had not been spiced. The only redeeming dish was The 44 farms NY strips: well cooked, but again not well seasoned and served with a few lonely turnips. will not go back

One of the best dinners weve had in Austin! The Tuna Aguachile was our favorite, but every dish was perfection. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Their cocktail menu is overseen by Garage Bar next door, and the Xoco cocktail is smooth and delicious. The ambiance is intimate and dark, in the best way possible. Cant wait to return!

The food was wonderful, presentation was phenomenal. Finally a restaurant who sources, prepares and presents a steak properly. The temp was perfect, you can tell it was rested, and the accoutrements were not over powering or forced upon the diner. Really fantastic. I don t need to say anything about the bone marrow, good lord what a dish. But our favorite part of the night was the staff. Everyone was so pleasant and engaging. Instead of our reserved table, we opted for the bar- and this brings us to our new friend Seth. Seth exemplifies what service can and should be. Great energy, very knowledgeable, and timed all of our food and drink so perfectly. We had some lovely conversation when time allowed for it, and it really just put the whole experience on another level. Thank you for such a lovely evening.
