Spectacular exhibits. The fact that you move along at your own pace and can take pictures (except the main exhibit) is great, not a lot of dime museums let you do that in my experience. The wax museum is probably the most interesting portion, well worth the visit just for that. Walked in, was warmly greeted, grabbed a ticket, had a great time. Couldnt recommend this place enough! What are you waiting for? Go!

What a cute attraction! My friends and I stayed down the street from here, and had time before our train, so we decided to pop in. This museum has so many weird exhibits and strange oddities, and it was a joy to walk around and see everything. My friends called it the real life Mystery Shack. Without going too much into detail, the actual stuff inside is interesting and worth your time. That being said, I do feel the admission price was a bit steep. At the time of writing its $13 a person. There was a total of about six rooms, two of which being gift shops, and even taking time to ooo and ahh at everything we were in and out in about half an hour. Granted, they have to pay people and downtown Austin is expensive, but the Contemporary two blocks down occupies a much larger footprint, rotates its showings, employs more people, and costs less per person with discounts. Its a bit of an apples and oranges comparison, but one worth noting in my opinion. Overall though, its an interesting place, especially if you have kids. If the admission fee doesnt scare you off, Id highly recommend giving this place some of your time!

the museum was comparable to the mystery shack from gravity falls, if you know what that is! there were definitely a few really cool parts, but also a lot of okay parts in between. kind of like a ripleys believe it or not. located in austin texas, a place that claims to be weird, I expected weirder stuff! the staff were very friendly and the gift shop was cool, i just expected something more. the wax sculptures were remarkable. lots of classic horror movie characters. though i also noticed that the bathrooms were out of order, which would normally be no issue, but after looking at some reviews here it appears the bathrooms have been out of order for about a year! Also, not wheelchair/stroller friendly. to see 2/3 of the museum, you have to use stairs.

Easily one of the best small museums Ive visited in my travels. And thats all chalked up to the friendliness of the staff, the unique setup of the exhibits and the character of the building itself. Each of the exhibits invites you to take your time reading the hand written notes and admiring the details. I thoroughly enjoyed the placement of the wax figures and the spookiness of walking through that section. Would definitely recommend going when it isnt super busy so you can take your time.

This museum is exceptional. A friend and I came on a whim after seeing it on Google maps and had a magical afternoon exploring all the nooks and crannies that its walls have to offer. There are incredible and rare artifacts from all over the globe scattered about for you to stumble upon and revel in. Real shrunken heads with the stories of how they were made and came to be. Pirates booty. Rare stones and orbs and feathers and severed limbs. Mummified dead people. You can put your face right up to theirs and look right in their eyeholes. Pretty sweet. And it was only like $13 each. We were there for oh, idk 3 hours? And we even kinda rushed it thru the wax museum at the end; which is worth seeing on its own if you re a fan of cult and horror classics. This place isn t huge, mind you, but the architecture and layout are incredibly unique and fun to explore. We were totally engulfed in the experience. I m 36 years old. Had the time of my life and will certainly go see it again. The people working there are incredibly laid back and kind too. Go throw em a few bucks and kill an afternoon in an extremely interesting way.

I m genuinely upset. This place looked cool and everyone in my family was so excited. We spent 20 minutes looking for parking and ended up paying a whopping 17 dollars. We started walking through some super sketchy parts of downtown and when we finally arrived at the museum, it was closed. It was Friday at 7 and according to their schedule Friday closes at 9. But we paid for our tickets, paid for our parking, and spent half an hour driving out just for the place to be closed. DEFINITELY not coming back.

The employees and owners were all so kind and chatted with me about my trip and experience in Austin, as I was visiting alone. They made me feel comfortable and welcome in the city. I highly recommend this museum. It is pretty small and cramped, so I recommend going during the week or off hours as to avoid crowds. Low-brow kitchy fun for those wanting to kill an hour in downtown Austin. It was crowded on our visit, but this was the day after the eclipse so it was probably not a representative weekday. The museum (interesting in and of itself as a historic building) is cramped and not wheelchair accessible but packed with classic sideshow curiosities to explore at your own pace.

Not kid friendly, definitely not stroller friendly. So make sure to plan accordingly if you are coming with kids. We drove over an hour to get here and waited in line for 30 minutes. No big deal, they were busy and I ve been anticipating a trip here for over a year. The girl at the front desk turned us away and asked us to go wait outside because of our stroller. Still not a big deal but she said we could only come back in if things cleared up and continued to let in the line of people from outside that were all behind us. I asked if we took our stroller back to the car and carried our baby if we get back in line. Nope. Our only option for admittance was to wait outside until they weren t as busy. Still wouldn t have been a big deal but no one else was being asked to wait. Such a bummer.

Pretty much as expected, I thought the quality of the displays, information placards, etc was very well done adding to the over all experience. You can tell a lot of care went into curating everything. Its a small but robust collection between authentic oddities, to believable recreations/imaginings, fun movies props and wax figures.

Its a quick time filler, but not something to go out of your way. The staff was not welcoming and it would not be something I will be returning to. Not to mention, the location with it being downtown, the homeless were everywhere and the smell of urine was off putting. I know its not their fault about the location, it just doesnt bode well for them.

The people were nice and the top floor was cool but I was expecting more. The gift shop was cute. I guess to me the stuff was cool but not that weird except on the second floor. Now I would say its still worth a visit for fun because there is some interesting stuff to look at and the top floor is worth the visit in my opinion.

So much fun, could have spent hours longer than we did in there. If Im ever back in Austin will have to go again and read more of the info. But there was a group behind us and I didnt wanna slow others down too much.

Its a cool place to visit. It used to be a guided tour, now its a self guided tour so not as informative. And not as many exhibits as there were just a couple yrs ago.
