Finding this place was an accident. But it was the best decision my friend made today. The place was nice. The owner was cordial and lovely. Food was delish! Drinks were bomb. Never thought this hole in the wall would give us the best afternoon on a Monday - where everyone is rushing to go back to work and get things done. Will definitely rave about this place for on and on and on. The enchiladas was amazing! You should try it out! Kid-friendliness: We had a primary schooler chilling with us at lunchtime. He had fun, too.

Mexican food with healthy choices. Really good food and very fresh ingredients. Try the roasted chicken or the caldo. They have really good breakfast until 11 am on week days - later on weekends. I love they have fruit salad too. Only about 10 tables so try to time your visit before the rush. Parking: Extra parking in the back

The food and the people here are just such a delight! I m in love with their chilakiles! I originally came here on a Friday and had to come back for their chilakiles which are available Saturday and Sunday only. The kindest woman suggested I tried half green and half red she was absolutely right to suggest it, given both are just so tasty! The staff is absolutely wonderful and the food is just delicious. Ive been a loyal patron of Julios since I moved to town back in November of 95. A classic family-run neighborhood cafe, tasty, mellow, real. Although it has changed hands, it has done so meticulously through the courtship of original owners/operators, (Stella & Fam). The new owners/operators (Claudia & Fam) have continued to carry the proverbial torch of great food, friendly vibes, and the classic neighborhood cafe its always been. An important pulse of the beating heart of old Austin. Leave your tude at the door and go get the best chicken enchiladas in town! Julios, you are so loved! Thank you immensely!

We stopped in for a late night (8:40) meal after a tournament all day. They let us in even though they were closing in 20 minutes and we are so glad they did! Weve had lots of Mexican food before but we will definitely remember Julios! The chicken enchilada plate with green chili sauce was probably my favorite enchilada dish in a very long time! They have fans on the patio so we stayed nice and cool while we ate. Well definitely come back.

Julios is the best neighborhood cafe around. Always good, reasonably priced food. Always friendly staff. Always a nice and relaxed neighborhood atmosphere. Highly recommend the green chile chicken pozole, though I believe its only available Fri/Sat/Sun. Happy hour margaritas are delicious as well and they have a machine to make them frozen if you desire. My favorite time to go is for breakfast. Its an order-at-the-counter type of place so send someone in your party to grab a table while everybody orders. Small indoors with limited seating but a spacious patio. Parking: In the middle of the Hyde Park neighborhood, plenty of street parking. There is a paid lot behind the building but I HIGHLY recommend avoiding it as nobody in the neighborhood is pleased that this easy, uncrowded, formerly free parking lot has been bought by one of those god-awful paid parking corporations. If its especially busy in the area, you may have to park a block down 43rd, but it is very walkable. Right next to a capmetro bus stop on Duval if you want to do that, its very accessible.

Julios has been one of our go-to neighborhood restaurant for 20 years. Maybe more. The restaurant changed hands recently and the food stayed the same, until tonight. The guacamole used to be fresh. Tonight, its taste and texture were like the wholly guacamole that comes frozen in bags. The salsa used to be freshly made and spicy, tonight it tastes like tomato juice from a can. The chips used to be thin and crispy. Tonight they were thick and greasy. The chicken, tortillas and beans are still good. But cutting corners on the salsa and guac for a chicken, rice and beans dinner that cost over $40 is going to lose us as customers. Well try again in a month or so and see if theyve changed back. If not, were very sad to lose Julios as a regular takeout when were too busy to cook.

I cannot recommend this place enough. What an Austin gem! We showed up one evening with our big group, not realizing how small this restaurant was - but the ladies there got us some chairs and drinks while we waited for a few tables to free up. My aunt has a severe gluten allergy and they went above and beyond to make sure she had something delicious she could eat safely. By the time I got home with the takeout container the fruit salad was covered in refried beans. It would only cost a few cents more for them to package the fruit salad away from the hot foods. In all, I was underwhelmed.

Julios to me is hands down the best restaurant in all of Austin. True, there are a lot of good places to eat in the city. None of them are quite like Julios. The roasted chicken here is otherworldly and sends you into a dream of flavor. The chicken taco plate and the soup are some of the best dishes Ive ever had in my life. Best of all however is the ambience; its a family-owned place with the kindest staff you can find, and a warm, homey environment to accompany the home-cooked food. Overall an institution in Hyde Park, a gem of Old Austin youd be sorry to miss.

The foods good, the prices are fair, the owners are nice, but Ive stopped going for afternoon lunch. Too often patrons are permitted to smoke cigarettes while drinking cocktails and their smoke invariably makes its way to over to me. While we were enjoying our coffee after breakfast a customer had grabbed the coffee pot and went table to table topping off everyone s coffee. Super fun place. A must.

First and last time i will go to this place. I asked the lady up front do we sit or wait to be seated ? I have never been here . She said you order... so I asked again, at the table or?? And she said order and point at her book. I said ,oh okay. We paid and she put a coffee cup on the table..didnt explain to serve it yourself, cause then I would have. Go to a booth.she brings our food.. I started eating... and my food has a big thick long curly hair!!! I take her my plate and say it quietly so no other customers hear me..and she looks at me with a face like Im lying. She said oh what? I replied, i dont want it , it has hair..and she just walked away with it. Started speaking in spanish about me which I understand!!! No one ever came to the table to apologize or anything Very rude, bad food and never coming back !

Good family run spot known for chicken dishes. Today I had well prepared chicken tacos, rice and pinto beans. Julios also serves delicious breakfasts , especially migas.

We hadnt been there in a while, and boy were we pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent, and, of course the margarita was a nice touch. We dont live in that neighborhood, but its not a big drive; so now that our memories are refreshed we will make this a regular stop.

The atmosphere is chill and laid back. The photos around the place are really nice. They have a small coffee bar that you serve yourself. They only offer milk and creamer. I ordered the migas plain with flour tortillas. The migas come with tomatoes onions and cilantro. The tortillas in the migas were nice and crispy but cut way too small. The egg to tortilla ratio is way off. Too much egg for my liking. That being said the flavor is ok. The portions are quite large. The salsa is not good. It s just tomato sauce it s not spicy at all. I found a carrot in there, I thought that was weird. The fruit that it came with was delicious. Nice and ripe. The coffee was also good. It was super fresh.

Service was friendly but slow. Came in around dinner time so thats more than understandable. The food wasnt anything remarkable but it wasnt bad either. I dont plan on coming back especially since what I paid in total definitely didnt match the quality of food that I received. The rice was a little bland and most definitely couldve used more seasoning. The fajita taco was the same as the rice but the portion of it was bigger than your normal taco. The beans were good along with the enchilada. I did also order an a la carte chicken quedsdilla and that was good. Again not bad but not great. My 3 star rating comes primarily from the friendly service and the really good strawberry margarita I had. If I were to rate the food on its own Id say a star and a half.

Good tex next with long standing tradition in this neighborhood spot. Chalupas are tasty, beans have pretty good flavour, rotisserie chicken is excellent. Ice is not available for the self refill station so thats awkward in the summer, and no Chips and salsa while waiting.

Came here once with friends for some margs seemed like a good spot so had a second visit and ordered some chicken enchiladas and my boyfriend had the fajita tacos. My chicken tasted like the chicken on 4th day of meal prep, so nasty almost fishy tasting. Fajita meat was incredibly chewy. We ended up sending both our plates back. We ve never gone somewhere and both of our plates be so bad. Unfriendly service doesn t help either
