The Legend! If youve never been there, you havent lived. I spent many hours having a cold shiner bock while studying across the street from campus. The day Waylon Jennings died, I walked in and heard the news. It was a place of solace. Shortly thereafter, they almost closed the doors. However, it remains this historic and joyous refuge. Thank the Lord it still stands, and will never leave us. I think the rest of it speaks for itself.

What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Austin. Good beers and live music, cant complain! We went to the Guadalupe Pickers and Drinkers Guild session where local musicians get a chance to try out some new songs or tweak some old ones. Really friendly bar and locals. Looking forward to popping in again when Im next in Austin.

Bartender DEMANDS tip or he won t give service! He confused me with another customer that did not tip and so refused to give me service. When I tried to clarify he dismissed me and still continued to refuse service. A tip is earned not demanded. He kept ignoring all customers around unless he knew them. Very RUDE and ARROGANT!!

Hole in the wall is a decent campus area bar. They often have a cover, which is fine and they frequently have good bands. But sometimes they have not so good bands with a high cover. I dont mind 5 or 10 bucks for some good local music. But if I pay 10 to 20 and the music kind of sucks and I just want to be away from it and talk to friends, the cover is too high. Loss of one star for high covers on occasion. They have more than a few but not many draft beers. Prices for these beers is about average for Austin. You can generally park around there reasonably on the street after 6:00 p.m. because thats when the meters stop charging. They built a nice cover on some of the outdoor area to create some shade in the summer and keep you dry in the rain. It makes for a nice outdoor effect which is better now than it was before.

Its a nice historical place on the Austin landmark, Im glad its been around so long. The drinks themselves can be rather expensive for what they are, but they taste good. Id recommend the dirty lemonade, its a full glass made with lemons that get freshly squeezed in front of you. I got a rum and coke which was pretty good too, but it wasnt much for $5, and even though I nurse my drinks I finished it pretty quickly. They use a decent amount of ice. Also, if youre going to see the bands play, Id recommend going AT LEAST an hour later than what the website says bc they did not start playing at 8 pm like advertised, it was around 9 pm that they started. If youre going to see a bigger band they might start more on time, but these were smaller bands with a much smaller crowd. Overall, I liked the atmosphere and added some stickers of my own to the sticker wall.

Honestly not going back. Worst karaoke in town, cover charge at the door but not any of the back entrances, weird atmosphere, and as a graduate I avoid anything within 500 yards of campus. So not sure why I went five times in the last two months, but I did. And I had fun zero times. Sorry!

Extremely biased opinion: worked here (twice) and met my husband here, but even if this little old bar hadn t had such an impact on me personally and professionally, I would still rate it 5/5. Authentic Austin bar with so much rich music history, awesome people working that really give a damn about the local music scene, not a douchebag in sight, great atmosphere, and a new band to discover every night. If you want to know what Austin was like back in the day, go to HITW (and listen to Townes Van Zandt).

Visited at SXSW2023. I came to see PeelanderZs Yellow on stage. This box has been loved by the locals for a long time, so it has a great atmosphere. Its perfect for people who like a messy atmosphere. Its a place where everyone who loves live shows and music can have a good time. You can buy alcohol by showing your ID, but some programs may be open to men and women of all ages (even children). Highly recommended!

The Hole in the Wall is an excellent bar to go and hang out with friends to listen to your favorite Austin- Texas bands, or discover new ones. They have a nice stage equipped with a good sound system. The bar offers mix drinks, wine, beers and a friendly bartender. The bar is located at the Drag, right across from the University of Texas at Austin. There is parking available on the street of you are lucky to find a spot, or at near by parking lots. Good times!

Awesome staff, cozy setting, indoor and outdoor patio areas. An austin original. Bands! Hear me: parking for load in and load out is abysmal. To load in the front stage, you will be blocking traffic to come in the front door. Rear load-in for the main stage is through the large wrought iron gate. The rear parking lot has now been taken over by the douchey sparts bar next door, so you will just hafta circle the block and hopefully get lucky, or (gasp!) PAY to park down the street in a lot... of note, street parking IS free after 6pm.
