It s actually a fun spot for karaoke. I thought the staff were fun and it kept the atmosphere light. I went on a Sunday and it was still well attended. Food was also surprisingly good. I just got fries but I was still impressed

Absolutely do not waste your money on this place. I hosted a birthday private karaoke room event and we were rudely interrupted by one of the servers who claimed to be the bartender manager for the night. Mid song, she burst in the room to announce herself and then scolded us for bringing outside food and sodas (non alcoholic ones) for health code violations. Thats all fair and good but if they didnt want us doing that then why arent there clear signs up, at the front, in the rooms or on the website that state that no outside food is allowed? We checked thoroughly beforehand. In the waiver they had me sign that stated the rules before we entered, it did NOT say that outside food wasnt allowed. It only states that no OUTSIDE ALCOHOL is allowed. We werent breaking any known rules, and were already paying for drinks from the establishment. She brought the waiver out to argue with us that it does say it. One of my friends and I looked it over again- it still doesnt say it. She then confiscated most of our food. She added that under different circumstances shed have to throw all of it away- essentially wasting our food and money! When we mentioned that the website doesnt state this rule, she back peddled and said that the site was under construction but the rule would be added that very night. My my, how oddly convenient. She also took my friends water bottle from right out of their purse even after she was told that the water needed to be with them for medical purposes, as my friend had suffered a recent heat stroke. The bartender did replace it with their own water bottle but her actions had already ruined the moral of the group. She had implied that she was going to dump my friends water out beforehand. For what?? So she wouldve dumped all of that expensive water out, wasting my friends money and humiliating us for a rule she seemingly made up on the spot, and then replace it with their approved water. Utterly absurd. She didnt go through with her threat, she just held it wherever they hold things (she didnt even tell us where she was taking it to, as if thats not shady enough) The first lady that served us at the start had initially saw the food we brought and had no issues whatsoever. She had every opportunity to communicate with us about this policy they supposedly have, but didnt. So clearly it was fine. And even if it wasnt, we would have no issue complying had the situation been handled with basic decency and respect. Not so. The second bartender is on some sort of power trip. Just a heads up- Number one rule of karaoke: Dont interrupt the singer!! Thats just common courtesy. Number two: if your business has a strict no food policy BE CLEAR about it to your customers. And last but not least: maybe think twice before reaching into someone elses purse! Theres no justification for that. She apologized to one of my friends for the inconvenience but completely ignored me, the paying customer, as well as the rest of the group, which was just yet another low. She gave us free jello shots in apology but the damage was already way past done. Dont come here if you dont want your birthday, or any kind of party to be ruined. Completely unacceptable and disrespectful behavior. Never coming back, no thank you.

My friends hosted a birthday party for us here and at 1st eveyrthing was going well and staff was nice besides some weird drunks at the bar who touched my friends bag but thankfully got the message pretty quickly you should give us space yknow. We were all in lolita so we gotta be on guard but anyways the establishment said and mostly only mentioned that outside ALCOHOL beverages are not allowed so ofc we thought it was ok to bring in some food and sodas. I had a water bottle in my own bag because I suffered from some serious heat stroke and Im pretty screwed if I get dehydrated in this weather in layered clothing and im the only one driving myself home. A waitress comes into our room interrupts my friend singing and says they have to confiscate eveyrthing except the pastries because its not a health code violation becuase they dont serve pastries but it made me especially upset when they reach for my bag for my water and I tried explaining my situation but they thankfully gave me a free water bottle. My friend ended up shortly leaving and I ended up throwing out the food they confiscated because yeah I could be overreacting but theres a serial killer that mostly targets bars here and I dont trust anything that hasnt been in my vision 100% of the time. I know theyre just doing their job but seeing how some people seem to have no problem to then having to come in during singing and literally say they JUST updated their website after confiscating our stuff puts a bad taste in my mouth. I dont reccomend coming here for birthdays or if you just look different.

We booked a private karaoke room, and our server was great for the majority of the duration of our reservation- however, as time drew nearer to the end of the reservation, the service became rather hostile and rude (particularly some random barback guy named Alan (sp), who repeatedly cursed out multiple people in our party, completely unprovoked and unprofessional). While I understand that this is probably an establishment that caters more to local, regular businesses, that does not excuse the abhorrent treatment that our group received.

Karaoke was top tier and everyone had a wonderful time! Our waitress was also wonderful! However, the man who supported the waitress and was apart of the bar crew, his name is Alan, was incredibly rude and disrespectful to our entire group as we were transitioning from the private room. He really changed the trajectory of the night which is unfortunate.

It was my bday, and they absolutely ruined it for me. We have a large group, and the bartender and waitress had a communication issue, and because of this, we had to leave. Despite driving up from houston to enjoy a night with some good friends, we had to leave. We offered to only have them drink water to avoid anyone having to leave and ruining the night, but the bartender and bouncer were extremely rude(cussing during a calm conversation) and refused any alternative solutions. We were enjoying the karaoke that was going on. As far as I am concerned, we will not be coming back. The waitress was very nice, but due to the bartender and bouncer being rude for no reason outside of them being cut off and due to their lack of communication, even if this is fixed on their end. We will never come back. This is very disappointing as the karaoke crowd was fantastic.

Been to a lot of karaoke bars. Used to go to this one for years. There seems to be a silly house rule now where if you sing with your friend, it counts as your song as well!? Stupidest thing I ever heard. My buddy wanted help on the chorus on a song. I go up to help out. As we re singing, the KJ is telling me that if I do that, it counts as my song too. So my choice is to lwave my buddy hanging or wait another hour till im up.. she explained it as a house rule. Here s a tip, it s stupid, change it back

This place came highly recommended to us by friends and we were looking forward to the karaoke but when we showed up we were told to wait a few minutes and then they would set us up. We ended up waiting for 15 minutes before sending someone back up to the bar to check on things. It took them another 30 - 45 minutes to be serviced at the bar and we found out they forgot we were even there waiting for our karaoke room. I get that they were short staffed but when we re sitting up at the bar and can t even get a drink for 30 - 45 minutes that s just insane. Don t bother and just go to the pool hall next door, great bartenders there and great service.

We had a fantastic time at Common Interest Karaoke Bar! It was a fun night out with the family. However, the karaoke sign-up process could be improved. The system of texting the DJ to queue up wasn t very effective in our experience, we texted at 10:45 PM but only got a response at 10:58 PM, and we never got to sing before we left at midnight. A more streamlined system would ensure everyone gets a chance to perform. Additionally, while the drinks were a bit watered down, our waiter added to the enjoyment with his humor. Despite these issues, we re definitely looking forward to coming back!

First time here. Ordered food/drinks from waiter with tablet who swiped my card. Asked same waiter to close my tab. He says okay and closed it . But didn t have me sign for it. That felt weird so I went to the bar and asked if my tab was still open. Sure enough it was. If you walked out with a tab still open they ll add a nice tip on top for themselves. So heads up don t believe the servers when they say they ve closed your tab. Also When I was signing the receipt a rude waitress came by and said I was in/blocking the servers area . Cool put a sign up because otherwise it just looks like part of the regular bar.

I usually have a good time here but it was really frustrating to have about 15 people in the whole bar and still wait 45 minutes for my song to appear on the screen. JUST TO WATCH THE DJ SING SEVERAL TIMES. I get the DJ wanted to sing but 45 minutes is a long time. It was still fun but I only sang one song and was there for two hours while the dj sang so many times. Not really fair to the guests at all.

This is not a safe place for women. The workers here are spineless. My girlfriend and I went here and there was another patron at the bar who claimed to have worked there in 2016/2017- and he wouldnt stop talking to us even after multiple, multiple attempts of asking him to stop. Eventually, because this man would not stop harassing us verbally, we asked him to stop again-more directly. At this point the other patron became angry. The bartenders got involved, who would not ask him to leave. We ended up leaving instead, after our first visit ever to this bar - would not recommend this crooked place. Bad vibes and bad people.

When I was there, I witnessed someone who claimed to be a previous employee, tell me and multiple others that he believed he should and could hit women when he chose to. When he was called out and attention was given to the situation, they handled it by letting him stay and doing nothing about the situation. I have been there several times. They have a good KJ, but beyond that, extremely lackluster. 1) They will direct you to their online menu and its outdated. When you order a drink that they no longer serve, they will be annoyed with you. As if you knew whats available or not on their menu 2) The servers are often rude. I have been accused of vaping from drinking out of a straw. I have never vaped in my life. 3) Even though they searched my bag/purse, they refused to let me bring it in. Its the fashion to have small backpacks as bags now, but they accused me of bringing in small bottles, even after I let them search it. I even overheard one employee of CI say to security that they needed to search my bag. Extremely rude and accusatory. If I had not been there for a bday event, I would have left.

The server we had was really great until she kicked out one of my friends at random. Said friend had barely any drinks and was singing along to a song when they asked her to leave for being too intoxicated . Absolutely ridiculous and abhorrent. We had zero explanation, and she had already closed her tab. They also claimed I myself had left the bar when I was still there and closed my tab well before close because I wasn t at my original table. Will never go back.

If I could give negative reviews I would. We emailed months in advance to book a large karaoke room for my birthday this week. The person responsible for scheduling this decided not to reply until the week of my birthday to tell us that it s been booked for months. They need a better scheduling system. My birthday plans are messed up now so thanks common interest. Extremely unprofessional, won t be going back.

Had the best time here in a private karaoke room! We had 8 people and I would say we were pushing it to maximum capacity since the room was a little smaller. Still enough spots for us all to sit though. We did have a server that brought us drinks and food and he was fun, singing along with us when he would come in to drop something off! Our reservation lasted two hours and I would say that was the perfect amount of time. Food was bar food/late night style but enjoyed it. The main stage bar area was packed when we left at 10pm on a Saturday night.

I was at Common Interest tonight in a private room with a group of friends. I briefly went outside with a friend and when we came back I was given a hard time about my water bottle and told I had to leave. Id already been inside over two hours. Once I was outside, my friend was told I couldnt re-enter even when I went to put my water bottle in my car. Ive never been banned from anywhere, so it was pretty ridiculous, especially after Id been there over two hours and spent money on alcohol and food. What idiots. Im not going back

The bartenders are always super attentive and on top of making sure you re taken care of here. I ve been coming since I moved to Austin in 2021 and Ive never had a bad time. They ve also got a super solid karaoke setup! I come often and it s so easy to text the KJ to put in my song if I don t want to get up and talk to them. They re good at keeping the rotation moving. They ve also got four private karaoke rooms that are easy to rent for a good price, I ve had my birthday here last year and will be again. I love Common Interest and all their staff so much!

We were invited out for a night of karaoke in Austin with friends and visited The Common Interest for the first time. It was nestled in a shopping row and from the outside we didnt know what to expect. The tables are moderately spaced on tiered levels. There is a large kitchen and a very nice stage. The DJ booth is located right next to the bathrooms. There was only one bartender/server when we got there and she was working hard, as there were already people there, enough to fill half the place. She definitely got a tip from me. I really liked the karaoke setup that had the list on the songbooks app and you texted your name and song into the DJ. Your position was on the displays, up to 3 ppl after the current singer. We had a blast. The food was good and the alcohol wasnt too expensive. The crowd was supportive and respectful. We are looking forward to singing there again. Parking: Its a shared shopping area so getting parking close may be a challenge.

My fiancé has been going to Common for years. I had always wanted to hear him sing karaoke. Because he no longer lives here, when we happened to be in town we decided to go. When it was his turn, the DJ called his name and accidentally replayed the same song the previous singer had chosen. Without any regard or professionalism the DJ completely ignored what he was saying, that it was the wrong song. So she proceeded to say if your name isn t called then don t get on the stage . We were all confused, even another patron tried to go to the booth and tell the DJ she made a mistake. Again, she ignored her and even when I tried speaking with her. She just went to the next singer and again made another mistake with the song. The DJ was everywhere. She ended saying it was the last song of the night. It was so disappointing. I had high hopes to enjoy ourselves at this bar but we got the complete opposite. I, as a first timer at Common. I will not be returning.

Tonis the bartender, manager, is so efficient, knowledgeable, and fun... no one can not love her. The Mac..rip, my dear friend... left an amazing Sports Collection of articles and signed jerseys and helmets to explore. I love singing Kareoke. So I go during the day in their private rooms to practice and then have get together s. Such an Iconic Place these last 36 years in Austin

Great karaoke bar. Food was ok, but learn from someone that has been there. Only expect to sing one song. Once you have submitted that song, any you request afterwards will be pushed to the end of the line for anyone who hasnt requested a song yet. And the place gets pretty busy. So get in, sing, and get out.

This is a karaoke bar with plenty of seating. You got people in their 30s all the way to the 60s kicking back here. Per their website: $6 TallBoys Lonestar, Lonestar Light, Coors all day & wells Sun-Thursday. I myself got a couple of their fancy beers for $7 each though. Not too bad. However, the karaoke was worth it. Sign up with their instructions on screen & hopefully youll go on sooner rather than later. Everyone has a good time here whether you are an amateur or seasoned singer.

I had rented a karaoke room until 2:00 a.m. and on my birthday and when I left they would not allow me to use the bathroom. They insistently did not allow me to use the bathroom at all when I insisted that I needed to use the restroom and that I had paid to use their facilities until 2:00 a.m. and they said nope not allowed. They were also super also argumentative and physically blocked the bathroom.

We love the atmosphere. Karaoke talent comes out of the woodwork and put on a good show. On the other hand, their cocktail drinks are... not good, at all. The house cocktails fall flat and the most recent drink I had, a vodka Redbull, tasted stale and poorly mixed. Otherwise, its easy to have a good time at CI!

Came for a company party. Bouncer/Security was extremely rude and inconsistent with checking ID. Refused access due to paper ID, but then he let other people in without checking their ID? Don t recommend this place. Rude and discriminatory. Better places for Karaoke elsewhere.

My first time here. (Im 58 years old and i got carded at the front door.) I liked it here. Nice crowd. Very large crowd. Nice Karaoke bar with a big stage and an awesome screen. The private karaoke rooms are great! Its like small living rooms. Great sound in the private karaoke rooms. Theres a big parking lot but the parking lot was full. Get there early. The Buffalo wings were delicious!!
