About the Company

rating: 4.6

Opened in July of 2024, our Texas outpost sits on Austin’s iconic Sixth Street in the Downtown Historic District. Predominantly pedestrianized, the area is known for its bars, clubs, live music, and comedy venues housed in 19th-century Victorian buildings, earning the street a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. Guinness, Irish Coffee, and Irish whiskeys from the country’s most talented producers are flowing in the Taproom. Modern Irish art adorns the walls, and celebrated Irish makers design our uniforms, menus, and nearly everything in between. And what is Austin without the right tunes? Our in-house Music Director has a few tricks up his sleeve.

This place is an absolute gem in the Red River district! I tried the Twilight Zone cocktail, and it was perfection. The ambiance is relaxed but lively, making it my new go-to spot for drinks with friends. Also, the brunch looks promising; I can t wait to try it next time!

Nice Irish bar on sixth Street. Good is very good. I would highly recommend the all day breakfast or bangers and mash that use amazing butched pork sausages direct from an amazing butcher in NYC using a traditional recipe. How do I know this I was in NYC and was told to try out this restaurant!

We got three meal s and an appetizer . The braised rib sliders were ok, the bangers and mash were good, the fish and chips were nothing special and the burger was by far the cheapest least interesting$19 burger ever. It s not worth the price. Additionally, the Guinness was off. My Aussie friend who drinks it often said it just wasn t good. He switched to a bottled beer. The service was stellar and everyone was extremely nice but we won t be back. One and done. We really wanted this place to be a new go to , unfortunately it s just another restaurant on 6th street that has to pay the high rent. Parking: We ubered but I m familiar with the area, no parting on 6th street near this location but it s an easy walk from Lavaca or any other street that has parking. Free on Sundays. Wheelchair accessibility: One floor, wide areas. Most are booths which could be an issue.

Burger and fries were fine and so it was our first round of cocktails, the problem was when I ordered the daily rind. After it arrived, it didnt look like the picture and didnt have the flavors described on the menu, when asking our server about the drink, they mentioned that the cantaloupe was missing since its difficult to source during this season. If they are offering a certain product in their menu, they should at least let the consumer know beforehand about the shortage, so its my decision to have it or not.

Had an amazing night here, our server was one of the friendliest Ive ever had, the food was so reminiscent of Ireland, and the cocktails. I think our group of 6 had to have tried at least 12-15 different cocktails, all well made, with really interesting ingredients. And the selection of spirits from Ireland, often impossible to find here, were plentiful. And of course, they poured a proper Guiness ! Bangers and mash, sausage roll and fish & chips were all perfect. A great place for a fun evening!

If you like Irish whiskey, this is the only place to come in Austin for legitimate Irish whiskey and food. Initially my friend and I were skeptical of our visit as our hostess and server that we started off with were not hospitable and made us feel silly about our questions. HOWEVER the evening took a positive turn when Bryan came out with our delicious burger, fish, and chips and K (our new server that magically appeared out of nowhere) introduced us to some fantastic new drinks and shared some Irish drink history with us. They were both so friendly and really fitted the atmosphere of a relaxing Irish neighborhood pub. K was very passionate about the cocktails and good service and introduced us to the Flying Boat cocktail (refreshing tequila cocktail with Thai notes). Some favorites of the night were The Doctors Orders (apple and spice forward), The Third Half, The Flying Boat, the fries, and both the tiramisu and the creme brûlée. would definitely come back for just drinks and desserts! The seating was comfy and space was good for conversation so it can be good for a moderately sized friend outing or a date. It is much more spacious than the NYC location and drinks are just as good. The fish and the burger could use a little bit more salt and acid but the quality of the produce and the cook were superb. Cant wait to come back! Parking: Street parking via the ParkATX app

We (party of 2) went for lunch to try some Irish classics: scotch egg, cumberland sausage roll, and fish and chips. We sat at a small table for 2 and all 3 dishes (2 appetizers and our entree) arrived together. The plates took up our entire table, with little / no room for our silverware and individual plates. Scotch Egg: Crispy outer shell with a creamy yolk center as to be expected. Cumberland sausage roll: First time trying this dish. Crispy phyllo dough outside and delicious sausage inside (same sausage as the scotch egg). Fish and Chips: Batter was not seasoned but cooked nicely with a light crispy batter texture and flaky fish inside. Our fries looked (and tasted) like they had been sitting out for a while, soggy and cold. I tasted one as soon as the dish hit the table so it wasn t due to the time it sat waiting for us to start the dish due to 2 other dishes on the table. I asked for salt to season the fish and it was much better once added. Overall, a cute bar on 6th but would not go out of our way for a meal.

Saw this was new to Austin and had to check it out, I d seen on a instagram video that they have frozen Irish coffees (which I miss Erin Rose in Nola). Anyways, my gf and I went on a Saturday late afternoon to check it out. We sat at a table (there s tables/booths and of course the bar top). The server initially took a little bit to come by but no big deal. We ordered the frozen Irish coffees but their machine had just went down so we got complimentary chilled Irish coffees. We liked those also, so we ended up getting a second round. We were hungry so my gf ordered fries and the market vegetable crudite (which is Celery, Carrots, Red Endive, Cucumber, Grape Tomato, Raddish, Creme Fraiche, Romesco, Herb Pesto), she enjoyed the veggies and the fries were good too. They were both pricey though $13 fries and $15 for a veggie platter. I ordered the chicken pot pie that comes with mashed potatoes and gravy, they were excellent. I m not sure I d ever ordered this from a restaurant but it was phenomenal, I highly recommend it. Overall the food and drinks were great, a little pricey but that s becoming Austin. Highly recommend and I ll be back for sure. Parking: This is on dirty (historical) 6th st, so the street is often closed on weekends. Even when it s open there s limited street parking.

First time here. Love that we have a new Irish bar in town. Lived here 18 years and still miss fados.. We stopped in for a drink we didn t eat but the food looked good on the tables around us. We ordered Guinness and harp.. I was surprised that the harp came in a can and wasn t draft.. I m not a fan of cans as I can get them at the local liquor store for a fraction of the $8 here.. I had a look at the menu and saw the full Irish breakfast was $29.. and didn t look like it came with tea, coffee or toast.. so with tax and tip it d be around $40.. sorry lads but this is over the top for me. While you can t compare the market, the same thing with all the trimmings back home would be $10-$15.. and over there they re complaining about rip off Ireland! Anyhow I truly hope you do well, but like another reviewer would be worried about the longevity once the initial buzz dies downs Good luck to yee.. slainte

The service was great- very attentive workers. However the place was so loud it was actually annoying and it wasn t even that crowded. Could barely hear the person sitting 2 feet away. Tables were very small and too close together and seating was pretty uncomfortable. The food was just okay. The salmon with the blood orange sauce wasn t great. The sauce had a bitter taste. My friend had fish and chips. He said the fish was good but the chips (fries) were very mediocre. Definitely not the place to go if you want to enjoy a good meal. Probably better if you just want a drink in the bar and maybe an appetizer, if you don t mind the deafening noise.

This is just to be able to post a comment. It s starting to not be early 24. Can you provide more updates for your timeline in Austin? Update: You re finally open and I m really liking the updates to the interior, very clean lines and great artwork. The Guinness was cold and poured well. It s your first night open, so it s been pretty smooth. Look forward to spending lots of nights here raising a pint :) Update 2: I see a lot of people complaining about a $10, proper 20oz, Guinness. If you go to the other bars in the area, they are charging $8 for a 10 oz pour in a plastic cup, like Blind Pig et al, and this is Guinness, not Bud, Miller or Coors, which will cost you $6-8 for a bottle (12 oz).

Nothing makes me happier than getting what I paid for, and a lot more. To that effect, The Dead Rabbit Austin delivers, just like their mother ship, back in NYC. Had a reservation for Friday at 9pm. Luke took great care of us from the start. He was knowledgeable and guided us through the cocktail and food menu. We enjoyed all of his suggested selections. Order a few apps and a cocktail each to start. All came out exceptional. Each cocktail ordered was super well crafted. I ordered the Taking Liberties, which is basically straight booze with a few dashes of flavor, and it was so well balanced. Delightful! The corned beef sliders and fried chicken apps were a good start for our taste buds. We moved on to mains; got a toastie, fish and chips, and a chicken pot pie. All were excellent. My pot pie was truly one of the best Ive had. Filling was creamy, perfectly seasoned and full of chicken. The crust, flaky as fuuuuuuuck! All the components of each dish were tasty, yet another standout was how fresh cut the chips were. Kudos to that, lets you know the rest of the food had as much care and thought put into it. Each of us had another round of their delectable cocktails, and decide to call it a night. As we closed out, Aiden came by and after some conversation, he hooked us up with a few of their most famous Irish Coffee shots. Now you have to know, I do NOT like coffee, but this.... This.....! Was delicious! Im summary, just go there. No bad there. Order one of everything! Its a stand out on 6th for sure.

Wow, Idc how many rave reviews you have. Whoever owns this place is rude and not very savvy. A restaurant called dead rabbit and theres no rabbit on the menu.

Stop by to check out the Dead Rabbit, having been to the one in New York while living there we are excited about the new one here in Austin. We did not try the food yet but the place is nicely done and the service was excellent. This had to be one of the friendly staffs we have seen in Austin in the last several years! We cannot wait to go back and try the food! If you do go there the Frozen Irish Coffee is must!

Overall a nice addition to the Austin restaurant scene. Cocktails were all excellent and felt unique . They had an Irish trad session playing on Sunday night which was a great surprise. Food was good. We had some issues with the wrong order coming out initially, having to wait a long time for the right food to come out and also ended up getting double charged for that item at the end. Our server was apologetic but would have typically expected some kind of discount for these issues. The space is very loud so don t come expecting quiet conversation. Definitely plan to check it out again down the road.

Finally a good Irish spot in Austin! Proper Guinness pour, solid bangers and mash and tender corn beef sliders. Doesn t feel like you re on dirty 6th, great upgrades! Some of the food is OK, should reconsider prices or concerned about the longevity of this place.

Food was certainly the highlight for me. Drinks and food were both quite marked up. Less of a problem for me on the food side given the quality but on the drink side it s all the same wherever you go so that was a harder one to swallow. Had hoped to catch some of the Scottish Open but there are zero TVs in the entire place so definitely not going to be my new Boxing Day spot as I d hoped. I get that s not what they are going for but still a big disappointment. Staff was friendly. My only true criticism with the chicken pot pie I got was that the gravy (which is served on the side) was very lumpy. The staff was kind enough to bring us a corned beef sample. Haven t had one that good since Mother Egans closed. Overall I liked it a lot but the price and being a sports fan it will be a spot I visit less than I had initially predicted. Worth a visit though. EDIT: IDK if there s a way to respond to a response so doing this. As far as prices, you guys are totally in one of the most expensive strips in Austin. Gotta do what you gotta do. I recognize that but was mentioned as an FYI to others reading the review. It s gonna be pricy. IMO it was worth it but isn t gonna replace my regular spot as a result. Which isn t bad! As for TVs. I love that y all have a vibe and stand by it. Personally tho there hasn t been a spot to watch footy on Boxing Fay in years so I m sad. I get it tho. For drinks, get what you re saying but I do Miller Lite and Jameson s shots. No great ice or top notch ingredients needed. I d suggest tweaking the price on something basic like that doing happy meal specials. Something to open the spot up to the average joes. If you want regulars they need a break in some way. Keep doing what your doing. More pubs is never a bad thing and I m excited for my next visit.

My visit to Dead Rabbit, just four days post-opening, was regrettably underwhelming. Once we were seated, the waiter neglected our table, requiring me to seek the host s attention. Additionally, the establishment faced significant shortages, with half the menu items and several beer options unavailable. While the items we managed to order were indeed tasty, it was disheartening to settle for what was left rather than what we desired. Although it s understandable that they are newly opened, it is disappointing that a restaurant of such repute failed to accurately anticipate inventory needs during its inaugural week.

TLDR: Best Guinness in Austin, world-class cocktails, and an absolute breath of fresh air to Austins 6th Street. Being one of the Austin Irish locals, I was delighted to finally have the Dead Rabbit on our doorstep and can confirm that the long wait was worth it. All of the modern Irish touches inside the space do an excellent job of portraying contemporary Irish culture and create a fantastic atmosphere to sit and enjoy the food and drinks with friends. The Guinness is as good as you will get anywhere outside of Ireland, and the cocktails are truly on another level. I can t count the number of times we have gone to cocktails bars in Austin, paid a premium price, and thought, I could have made this at home . That is certainly not the case at the Dead Rabbit where the cocktails were all delicious and unique, without the usual artificial or overly alcoholic aftertaste. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I will certainly be returning on a regular basis.

$29 for two premade Sysco frozen cod fish fillets with a couple french fries, not even a basket. Just a couple. $10 for a Guinness plus tax and tip you in it for $60. $60 for one beer and some Long John Silvers. Imagine bringing a date to Dirty and dropping $150 on literally deep fried fast food while getting elbowed by drunk college kids. Whoever thought of serving $30 fried fish in the trashiest part of town needs to be fired. I ll bet within a month there will be a street vendor selling fish and chip baskets out front for $15. Edit: I love the dude trying to justify the prices like we dont have the internet. Total Wine in Mueller sells a 50L keg of Guinness for $205. Thats retail to consumer, they get better pricing. Thats 100 pints of beer. Cost is $2 a pint. Industry standard markup is 200-300%. Their markup is 400% or $10 a pint using consumer pricing. Their actual markup is closer to 450% with wholesale pricing. Lets not get into some of your other beers. Coors? Youre over 1000% markup. Cod is a little more expensive right now. The two fillets cost approx. $2 each, plus breading, etc. Fries and peas are basically free, a couple cents. Thats just labor cost to prep. So the fish and chips costs approx. $5. So were looking at approx. a 700% markup on the fish and chips. Industry standard is 300% for pub food. Dudes acting like hes invented fried fish like I cant go buy a $8 box of Gordons battered cod at HEB and air fry it to crispy perfection. So on one fish and chip dinner with one beer, on the $49 tab minus tax.... youre profiting $42 per meal. For literally fast food. Your average nightly sales (beer and food) I estimate are approx. $20,000 on the low side. You brag about investing millions yet with your insane markups youre looking at a ROI of about 1 year which is nothing short of a cash grab. You dont revitalize a district known for homeless people and drunk college kids by trying to gentrify it with the highest beer and food markups on the block. This is Austin, Texas. Did you not do a single ounce of marketing research? What is Austin obsessed with? Tourists obsessed with? Retro western. Tex mex. Cowboys. Vintage cars. Live music. Nobody flies to Austin to get $40 fish and chips and a $10 pint LOL. Bro you need a refund on your college degree. This might have worked on West 6th towards The Betty or Statesman where its more of an upper end district, but dirty 6th next to Voodoo doughnuts? LOL!!!!!!!!

After visiting the Dead rabbit in New York, I did not have high hopes for the one here in Austin. The one in New York is amazing and I did not think that they would be able to replicate the wonderful atmosphere. Although the atmosphere in the new Dead rabbit is very different from the one in New York, I would have to say that its actually better. Its brighter and more fun, the staff is Friendly and the food is amazing. You have to try the fish and chips and the ham and cheese toasty. Honestly, we went back twice in 24 hours. We had such a good time. The first time we wanted to show our friends.

We went to the soft opening this week on the 4th, along with a lot of other people, it was slammed! Lovely greeting by the man at the door, who asked our names and welcomed us in (and checked our ids! Thank you sir ). My initial reaction was that the noise inside was deafening, you had to basically shout to be heard. I couldn t really hear the hostess at all or my partner who was sitting across from me. It sort of died down in noise a bit as we were there so not sure if there were just really loud people standing by the bar or we got acclimated (it was a bit hard to hear for a while when we left) Enjoyed looking at the wall decor, very eclectic. I felt like I could basically touch the two tables next to us which didn t help with noise I m sure. Service was understandably slower, as it s new and they were very busy. We weren t overly in a hurry but wasn t our last stop for the evening so we were grabbing a drink and trying a couple food items. Our server was great and kept checking on us/giving us updates. He nicely brought us a shot as our food came out before our drinks (he later said the drinks didn t get put in and brought us out a coffee slushy thing too, which was unexpected). He really went above and beyond. My partner got the espresso martini and really liked it - very strong but velvety and not too harsh. I had the Irish Rose cocktail, which was light and refreshing. The corned beef sliders were amazing!! As this was a pre-dinner stop #norules , I ordered the vanilla crème brulee and while good, it was an underwhelming flavor (mostly just sugar, no depth). Overall we will return again, especially to try more of the traditional Irish food!

We went to the Dead Rabbit yesterday, and overall it was a great time! We arrived a smidge before our reservation time, and only waited a few minutes before being seated. The atmosphere was open and inviting, with a decently sized bar area to grab drinks, and the sitting area where several waiters were making the rounds to take orders, refill waters, etc. Our waitress Jamie (sp?) was extremely pleasant and attentive throughout our experience. My wife and I started with the Irish whiskey martini, a Twilight Zone, and a half-pint of Guinness. The cocktails were absolutely delicious, and the pour of Guinness was about as good as you can get here in Austin! For food, we started with a Scotch egg. This was a perfect shareable, as it was cut down the middle and easy to split. The flavor was on point, and did not feel overly greasy or heavy. Next, my wife and I split an order of the fish and chips. The batter was the star of the show, as it didn t get soggy or soft, and kept a very satisfying crunch with each bite. The fries were wonderfully seasoned, and the tartar sauce was a secret star of the show. The mashed peas is a traditional side, and while I don t love peas, was actually pretty tasty with a strong mint flavor. To finish out the night, I got a Third Half, which is basically their version of an Old Fashioned, and my wife got an Usquaebach. Both drinks were the perfect end to our date night at the Dead Rabbit. As with any newer bar in downtown Austin, you will definitely pay a pretty penny. However, the experience was a breath of fresh air for the Austin area, and I would definitely go back!

Happened to be in Austin for opening week. Being from N.Ireland I was beyond impressed and proud! Irish people abroad have a new home away from home. Austin peeps now have a little taste of the creativity, art, food, and culture coming from Ireland. No shamrocks and cheesy Americanized version of Ireland here. Seeing Tayto crisps hung behind the bar made my heart sing. Every staff member was beyond helpful. Drinks were fab. You can tell everyone s heart and soul went into this place. Looking forward to coming back every time I m back in Austin!

The Dead Rabbit has finally graced the vibrant 6th Street of Austin, and I couldnt be more ecstatic! As a long-time admirer of their NYC location, Ive been eagerly counting down the days till I could experience their renowned hospitality right here in Texas. Let me tell you, it was worth every second of the wait. From the moment you step through their doors, the ambience is both inviting and electric, with the kind of warmth that only the Irish can offer. The staff? Absolutely top-notch. Friendly, attentive, and brimming with that unmistakable charm. Now, lets talk about the food. Authentic Irish cuisine that feels like a comforting hug from the homeland. Every dish is crafted with such care and tradition, it s as if theyve brought a piece of Ireland right to our plates. And oh, the cocktails. At first glance, the menu might seem a bit intimidating, but dont let that fool you. Each drink is a masterpiece, showcasing a sophistication that dances on your palate with every sip. Its a symphony of flavors that elevates the cocktail experience to an entirely new level. The Dead Rabbit is the future of 6th Street and Im absolutely thrilled theyre here. Sláinte!
