I ve been eating here since they opened and it never disappoints. The attention and care from the staff is always exceptional. The chicken sandwiches are the best in town and reasonably priced, especially for 2024. I recommend the big bird with spicy peppers, which they add for no extra charge. I ve worked in food businesses for 30 years and it s clear that the staff love what they do and care about the food and the customers. Also the story behind the business is inspiring. Highly recommended.

Great food, we tried several of the menu items and all were delicious. The items were cooked fresh and unlike other fried chicken restaurants the hot fried chicken stayed fresh and crispy in the take out packaging, this is impressive. No sweated out chicken. Also loved the chicken biscuit with pepper jelly which was so tasty and again the fried chicken sandwich with kale salad. We bought a lot and were not disappointed when the next day left overs still tasted as good as the day before.

This restaurant is located inside of an HEB at their Mueller location. This HEB location has a food court which has various other restaurants. I didnt really know what to think of this place. However, their duck fat fries are notable and the Caesar salad actually has anchovies in it, which I sort of like. Give it a try if youre hungry and want to grab a bite before you go shopping at HEB.

I love the spicy bird here, definitely my go to. The dipping sauces are just unbeatable though. My only problem here is that the kale in the spicy bird is always raw when I get it. I just wish it was massaged a little or somethin. Wish I could give a 4.75 star for that reason but it only gives me the option for 4 or 5. So still gotta give the 5 to not bring the rating down, cause this place rocks

The fries were so over seasoned neither myself or my husband could eat them. He got a spicy chicken sandwhich and I got a regular chicken sandwhich. The oil the chicken is cooked in seeps into the flavor of the chicken and breading and it s just nasty. Mine tasted like straight curry and there is none on it. It s supposed to have kale on it and it was just soggy lettuce. We questioned whether my husbands was fully cooked. Both had stomach aches after. Sadly we won t be trying it again.

I was not a huge fan of the wings there were feathers still on them and I just think they should rethink their containers because they are hot and steam the container and are no longer crispy if you take them to go, the bar is a nice place to try to sit but it is pretty busy

So good I didn t even get a picture! As an extremely critical foodie this was the best chicken SANDWHICH in ATX period . The fries were crispy salty with a light peppery aftertaste simply delicious! Fries were going CRAZY The honey mustard needs to be bottled and sold alongside the beautiful creamy ranch! I will certainly be back with friends! Now HEB clean that bathroom weird and smelly transition into the bar area but once you sit down it s not as noticeable. I usually order from the Roots inside HEB, but yesterday I was very disappointed with the amount of fries I was given, especially since they cost $3.00. See pic below. The chicken was also greasy and not as good. Very Disappointed. Follow-up: Roots asked me to call them after seeing my review, so I did. I spoke to Robert who stated someone else would call me back from the actual restaurant. I gave him my phone number & havent heard from anyone. No problem, too many other chicken joints.

Little nice hidden gem inside an HEB location, specialized in duck fat fried chicken it was sooo good, easy ordering system, very fast turn around, a great overall meal and the fact that you can place an order while you shop is awesome, also theres a very nice food court and sitting areas around so you can definitely go just for the food, nice setup, wish more cool things like that exist.

i ve shopped at this heb a hundred times. i ve eaten at all the restaurants in main streat food hall and been generally pleased with all of them. i ve had the strips from roots chicken shack a few times and enjoyed them. I m not sure what happened yesterday, maybe it was an act of good or some other divine inspiration, but for the first time, i decided to order the spicy chicken sandwich and then do my shopping. the item that i picked up in the brown paper box when i was leaving heb was a supernatural artifact. this sandwich was one of the best things i have eaten in this life. i am forever changed. i don t know what s in the kimchi sauce, i don t know what they do to the peppers, i was afraid of the kale greens- but it was all extraordinary. the bun, the massive piece of chicken. juicy. crunchy. meaty. dear god

Roots Chicken Shack is good when its consistent. The person that cooked my food probably wants to sabbatage this restaurant. I eat here often but sometimes the food is too salty that I cant eat it. Today, I ordered chicken nuggets and fries and couldnt eat my food. Im never eating here again because Im wasting my money. Ive reported this issue to a manager a few months ago.

Not your run of the run of the mill chicken place well worth stopping in very convenient easy ordering an excellent food by far the best chicken strips Ive ever had the wings arent too bad either downfall is you cant buy pieces of chicken or buckets of chicken its only strips and wings and sandwiches thats it and sides but the chicken strips are really good the wings were damn good too but you dont have a choice of multiple flavors but they are the full size wing and the price is pretty competitive with any other place that serves chicken so overall I give it a 4.5 the reason why 5 short is because it doesnt have buckets of chicken and doesnt have multiple flavors of wings their sauces are excellent very good and they are all made from scratch right there also there is no dining area so dont expect to sit down its all takeout

Ordered a hot chicken sandwich, wings and fries. The fries were excellent, although Ive never had fries with salt AND pepper. The chicken was freshly fried and I got to the window a little early and saw the worker with a torch hand melting the cheese that was put into the chicken sandwich. A nice touch considering she could have just tossed in a cold slice and then let us just eat it cold. I wish that the wings could come tossed in one of the sauces rather than the sauce provided in tiny sauce cups, but I understand the additional labor costs that would require.

I was very excited about eating here for the first time! Unfortunately, the oil they fry the chicken wings in didnt agree with me and I got a stomach ache and headache. The flavor also wasnt for me. How often do you walk into a grocery store and walk by the food hall without a thought? Well, let me change that for you. Recently, I walked around the Mueller HEB and noticed they have a nice set up called Main Streat Food Hall. After looking at the various vendors, I ultimately decided to get some food from Roots Chicken Shak. I got the Big Bird which is their original chicken sandwich and costs $7.95 and comes with a sweet potato bun, seasonal kale salad, veggies, and herb mayo. Y all - what a great idea! It tasted great! I was genuinely surprised and it really made me open-minded about food halls in grocers because this was high quality. And it s no surprise. After doing some research, I find that it s ran by Chef Tiffany. She was a Top Chef competitor and a Top Chef: All-Stars finalist on Bravo! All in all, I was highly satisfied. Great price, great food, and it came out really fast. Come check them out and let me know what you think! All in all, I gotta give them a 5/5!

Fantastic food! This restaurant is part of HEB s Main Streat, which has a variety of restaurant counters where you order via a kiosk, then can either take your food to go, or sit in their dine-in bar area. We visited on a Friday evening, and there was a band playing with a lively atmosphere. I was a fan of Chef Tiffany from her Top Chef days and I am so happy to report that her food is as good as I expected it to be. Everything we had was delicious The chicken was fried to perfection, the biscuits were amazing, and the duck-fat fries were some of the best French fries I ve ever eaten. Kudos to the chef and to the cooks who executed her vision! I also really enjoyed the Main Streat concept. I ve never seen anything like in a grocery store before, but I wish our local HEB would open a Main Streat. It would be a great place to go with a group of friends, especially if you can t decide on what type of restaurant to go to. Though I will definitely be eating at Roots again the next time we visit. It s so good that I don t want to try the other restaurants!

I never understood why chefs are so scared to add the proper amount of seasoning to their batter but let me tell you... this place DEFINITELY does not lack in that department. EVERYTHING about this meal was incredibly good! The sweet tea isnt basic by any means, its enhanced. The duck fat-fried chicken strips were so good. Duck-fat fries are SO GOOD! Theyre totally different from regular fries. My partner said he found his new favorite spicy chicken sandwich here. And the banana pudding - OH MY GOD! So good! So big! What a sweet surprise to find this place in my local HEB! The chicken sandwich was divine! So much flavor and a great cook. Each bite was juicy and crunchy at the same time.
