I was sad to see that the southern part was closed (based on the other reviews it appears this has been the case for a while). The part I was on was great - perfect for cross country running or hiking. It was peaceful, the trail was clean and free of obstacles, and the scenery was nice (for a Texas trail at least).

This trail is a great way to do a morning hike or bike. Love the hike as it has mist over the greenbelt and one can decide how much he or she wants to hike and do it. Restrooms are great too, there is enough parking space as well

This is a great little park connected to both the Greenbelt spillway/river and trail that connects the Ray Roberts Dam and Lake Lewisville. It s quiet, off a country road. There are several places you can fish or launch kayaks from. It has always been clean when I ve used it.

THIS is the trailhead to tackle the entire nearly 22 miles of the Lake Ray Roberts Greenbelt Trail. I have tackled this trail from the north end, the south end, and now the middle and the middle section is by far the easiest on you. The first time I did this trail (temps all 3 times were over 100 degrees in the summer, btw) I started at the north end. The Elm Cut trail is an almost 1 mile trail that is a 90 degree turn from the main trail, out and back is like, 1.8 miles, and there is no shade at all. Starting down the main trail itself, you begin with about .75 miles of trail with a thick shady canopy, and then the following 3.25 miles of trail to the FM 428 park is completely open, exposed to the sun. Contnuing from FM 428 South, the next 1.3 out of 1.85 miles is completely open again, and the last 4 miles South is covered in a nice thick canopy. This means, if you start from the North trailhead, with the intent of tackeling the full trail in one go, and head South on the main trail, when you return in the heat of the day, the final 4.5 out of 6 miles will be completely exposed to the sun, with very, very, very few opportunities for cover. Understand, the section of trail that is open, the tree line is 30 to 60 yards (more in some areas) to the East of the trail, and there is nothing to the West but farm land. The sun is right above you, and trees that do offer a place to escape the sun along the trail are separated a good half mile or more. Keep in mind also, there are only a handful of benches along this entire trail... like, 4 or 5 total. Anyway, This was the toughest of the 3 trips for me. I literaly got my butt kicked. If you start at the South trailhead and hike North, at 6am, you will be completely shaded the entire way to the North trailhead, except on the Elm Cut trail. Going back south, however, the sun has risen high enough that you get all of it for that 4.5 out of 6 mile section, though its not nearly as hard on you as it would be later in the day. Finally, if you start in the middle, you can knock out the North section before the sun ever rises high enough to cover the trail, and when you head South from there it is still early enough in the morning that the sun is not very intense at all. The final 1.3 out of 1.85 miles on the way back is exposed to the sun, but I promise you, that is hella better than the final 4.5 out of 6 miles. This will always be my starting point on this trail going forward. Another benefit to parking and picking up the trail here is that you dont have to carry nearly as much. I sweat a lot, so when I do this trail, with temps in the 100s right now, I go out with almost 2 gallons of water/Gatorade in my pack... thats 16 pounds. Not to mention other items like keys, phones, protein bars, etc... parking here, I ate breakfast, hit the trail with only 1 gallon, returned and took 10 minutes to eat sandwiches that were packed in the cooler, switched out my fluid containers, and went out with another gallon on my back. I promise you, 8 pounds does not seem like much, but it made a huge difference in how my back felt at the end of the hike.

Whether its warm and sunny or the middle of the night in the snow. We love walking the trails and hanging out here. Its a small park, but very well kept. Heading north to Ray Roberts is a great leisurely trek for a midday picnic and back or down to 380 and back if you just to powerwalk for a couple hours.

Ive been twice, this is the entrance i use for Ray Roberts Lake. nice long scenic trails. Dog-friendliness: leash on. if you dont listen, there is barbed wire on the left for a bit where the trail borders a big ranch. Picnic area: there are three picnic tables at the start.

Dumpy park with a gotcha charge of $7 per person and only one sign all the way at the back warning that you ll be charged. If I had known it would cost us $14, I absolutely would not have bothered. Don t recommend.

I cannot recommend the trails at this park enough. While its unfortunate the Southern trail has been partly closed for years now, what is available is absolutely beautiful. Theres often wildlife ambling about (deer, armadillo, rabbits, etc.), and during spring the wildflowers just cover the fields. I did encounter some feral hogs once a few years back, but havent seen them since. If youre looking for a place to explore nature, escape the hustle and bustle for a day, and get some exercise, you should definitely check this park out.

Only five miles from this park to the Ray Roberts dam. I wish you could get some more distance for riding but the greenbelt south of here is still closed due to flood damage. This is still a good access point for the trail or launching a canoe or kayak in the Trinity. Dont forget this a TPWD fee area.

My son enjoys this park because. Traffc is lite flat asphalt and in the back corner are gravel piles for his remote crawlers and drift cars and trucks. Plenty of handicap acessable restrooms ramps and side walks along with covered picnick tables for eating reading or catchin a few zzzzs . this park.also accommodates horses and riders.
