This place was recommended by a friend & Im glad they told me about it! Ive been in DFW for a long time & Im sad that I just now discovered them. Affordable prices with portions that are just right. I had the beef philly (you can also get chicken), the filling was generous as the bun had it topped on both sides. The meat was tender, well seasoned, onions cooked perfectly (I am super picky about onions not cooked enough because Im not a fan of raw onions), & the bun was toasty! Fries were nice & crispy. I also had a slice of chocolate mousse cake, this was a treat. It wasnt overly rich. My friend had a chicken sandwich with green beans, he was happy with that choice & my other friend also ordered the philly... no complaints from either of them! We had another friend join us last minute so we were there for over three hours, our waitresses had a shift change & both of them were so sweet... they didnt seem to mind us just chatting. The place seems really homey, down to earth. I will say the restroom needed a little love, they didnt seem too busy but Im not sure if they had a lot of staff members working at the moment. My bill came out to $20 before tip, not bad. I would recommend you trying this place if you get a chance! I was sad to see that during our time there were only three or four tables at a time, including us in that count, were occupied. Its clear why they have been here for many years & I hope they will still be here for many more to come!

The food was delicious and the staff was amazing! You could tell that they have a lot of regular customers. They called our waitress by name and she asked about their families, recalling specific events in their lives. She even took time to get to know us. When my friend and I get together, we can talk forever. Rather than be upset that we were still there, our waitress encouraged us to take our time. I highly recommend Southern Recipes Grill!

This is the best restaurants I ve ever been too. I would go to this place everyday and never get tired of it. The service is wonderful, they gave me my food quickly and fast as possible. Maybe what I ordered is not their specialty. Everything about this place was just meh. The food was hot and fresh but had literally zero flavor. The steamed veggies were cooked perfectly but tasted like nothing, like not even butter was used. The service was quick but no one was smiling or seemed to want to be there. It was all done out of obligation. The restaurant itself was really dark on the inside, plenty of space though. I tried it based on the reviews but dont think Ill be back.

Ive went through and read some reviews before posting my own. While I agree the atmosphere needs updating, it reminds me of my grandmas house. Walking in and smelling some real good chicken and some real good fries aint a bad thing. Its cozy inside, not boring. SRG is clean, and professional while remaining a homey environment. They made sure Ive been attended to and every server Ive had has always asked for a thumbs up/down while they walk past me to ensure Im content even in the midst of a dinner rush. The fried pickles are to die for. Id kiss the front steps in exchange for some fried pickles. The fried okra also reminds me of my grandpas fried okra. This place is true southern comfort food. We are from Georgia. Eating at Southern Recipes Grill was the best part of our trip. We will definitely make this a part of our trip every time we come to Texas. The staff was sweet and the old fashioned atmosphere of the building was unique. Huge plates of food and we ate every bite. Half of us got the fried chicken and the rest of us had breakfast for lunch (they serve breakfast here till 2:00). I had the vegetable quesadillas with hash browns and it was awesome.

Ordered via Doordash. Order arrived about ten minutes earlier than promised which was a lovely surprise. Ordered fried mushrooms, which though delicious, where a bit short on the numbers. The reason the restaurant still gets a five star rating is solely due to flavors. As stated, the mushrooms were delicious, crispy on the outside, juicy inside and if they were not so expensive, I would have ordered far more! The chicken fried steaks and chicken were great, not too much, nor too little breading. The breading was far more well seasoned than most places, no bland breading here. Lots of gravy atop the generous sized portions of meat. The potatoes and gravy were wonderfully tight real potatoes, not runny as so many places use. I had the cinnamon apples and enjoyed them thoroughly. Sons had the seasoned rice, cole slaw, and rolls and all were very pleased with their meals as well. The rolls and cornbread were generous, sons remarked on the heft of the rolls and I had my cornbread as a snack later with a bowl of milk. The salad was tasty, but the cup of soup was not soup, was actually a small cup of meaty stew with a fabulous and complex flavor. This was a splurge and rather expensive overall for a Doordash meal for our budget, but when we can afford to do Southern Recipes Grill again, we will certainly be looking forward to trying out some of their other meals! If I could give more stars... I would.

First time here. IMPRESSIVE. Got a grilled chicken sandwich. It was quite tasty. Toasted honey wheat bun covering a juicy chicken filet. The lettuce tomato and pickles were delightfully fresh and the red onion of course gave it that kick i love on any sandwich. I give the sandwich an A. Side salad was very lacking though. A plate of lettuce, one tomato, cup of ranch. Ranch very lacking flavor as well but my intent was to keep it fairly healthy this day so bland and lacking is often expected with healthier options. My lunch mates rating. B on the chicken gumbo. B on the grilled porkchops. Good flavor but they were overcooked. The black eyes peas were just ok. Salmon was an A but wine sauce very lacking in flavor. Overall tho we were all pleased and will return. Hope to try their breakfast. A on service as well. Great prices for a good portion of food! I got the char-grilled chicken breast on a bed of rice and a side of mashed potatoes, green beans, and a roll. The food was overall good I wish the chicken had been a little more thick and tender (it was butterflied open and pretty thin/almost dry.) but the taste was good and everything else was perfect! The roll was dense and moist my favorite part! We had a large party of around 15 people and the servers were all very patient and courteous with our group. It was a wonderful place to have a yummy, affordable, and intimate family-style dinner. Would recommend! And excited to try again.

The service was great. The fried mushroom appetizer was good. We had (2) chicken fried steaks and (1) chicken fried mushroom chicken which all had excessive amounts of breading. The beef was tender but the chicken was about 1/4 thick and tough. The mash potatoes and French fries were good. The steam veg-med was overcooked and the dinner rolls were very dense and chewy. We celebrated my daughters fourth birthday at Southern Recipes Grill today and had a pleasant time. The ambiance was quiet around 1 PM on a Saturday, which was surprising but made for a calm meal. Service was slower than anticipated with our orders being taken about 20 minutes after we were seated, which was a bit inconvenient as we were quite hungry. Despite this, the food was worth the wait. I had an omelette packed with bacon, ham, beef, mozzarella, and cheddar - it was absolutely delicious, as were the hash browns. My son enjoyed his burger, though I found it a tad salty, but still tasty. The gumbo and hamburger were also hits with my other family members. The country setting of the restaurant added to the overall good experience. Considering the slow service but great food, I would rate our visit at 4 stars.

Hubby did two visits here last weekend with friends and family for dinner Saturday night and breakfast Sunday morning. Everyone said their food was excellent on both trips here. One order was for Steak (medium) and fried Shrimp with a cup of Soup, French Fries, Cooked corn and Rolls. The second order was for Blackened Salmon, Cup of Soup, Mashed Potatoes, Cinnamon Apples, and Corn Bread. The other two orders Chicken Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Corn, Black-eyed peas, Fried Okra, Green Salad and several orders of Chicken Gumbo. Breakfasts the next morning were several BYO and Southern omelets with grits, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, and an entree of Cinnamon Toast with apples, bacon, and syrup. They said all of the food was excellent and the portions ample. The prices were very good value. They would certainly return again and would definitely recommend. Excellent customer service from Amy and Bree. Parking: Ample free parking is available.

A new favorite, wow we were impressed. This is a not fancy (at all, but clean) local restaurant (built inside a former residence?) with a diverse menu, amazing food, great prices, and some of the best service around. Small bar with neon signs and $3.50 drafts (reasonable prices on all alcohol) in the middle of the restaurant. We were a little tired of the generic and more expensive chicken fried steak from Babes so were on the hunt for something more homemade and authentic. This place is now our favorite chicken fried in the metroplex. $12 gets you a HUGE fresh battered fried steak (meat goes all the way to the end), a large bowl of soup or salad, 2 generous and unique side choices (ex. baked cinnamon apples), and cornbread or roll. Portions are very large. Food tasted delicious, and staff kept our glasses full and even offered takeaway cups! We will definitely be back.

Great place to eat. Staff is wonderful. Had the chicken fried steak and sampled the catfish and shrimp. All was delicious. Had the apple pie to go and it was eaten as soon as I got home. It was absolutely amazing.

I m gonna be honest, my family chose this place for a birthday lunch for an older relative and I was not thrilled. The ambiance leaves much to be desired. Lighting is horrible and there were random boxes everywhere (we were sat in the room in the back on the right when you enter). But this place redeems itself with the staff and food. Everyone enjoyed their meal and my mom even asked if they sold their honey mustard because she loved it so much. The chicken fried chicken, green beans, okra, mashed potatoes, chicken gumbo, rolls, and cornbread were all amazing! We took a large group photo at the end and the two waitresses worked together to situate everyone for a perfect shot. Great experience but they could work to spruce the place up!

The parking is very close to the restaurant, which is nice. I had ordered the sweet tea really good, not being too sweet and not sweet if that makes sense. I order the chefs salad with no onions, and tomato hopes are high. Sad to say that the salad was room temp not cold at all tasted like onions .the bread, on the other hand, really really dense, and though like jerkey, lets hope its just the bread and salad. I want to give it a real rating of all the foods. Ill be back for more! My grandmother ordered a ribeye it was very tough, and the fat of the ribeye was more seasoned than the meat itself, hopeful that its just a bad day.

I have been here a handful of times for breakfast. The food is always good, and the service is great. We always have the same waiter, really attentive personable guy with red hair, sorry I dont remember his name. The atmosphere is very homey, and the prices are reasonable. Looking forward to trying out their dinner service!

Great place! Im new to the area and so happy to see this place! Great atmosphere....no screaming kids, no loud music....just people talking and having a great time! Steak was cooked perfectly and great side dishes....all made me feel like I was eating Sunday dinner at my parents...(overheard a lot of Sir and Maam from the staff)....such a great environment...Highly recommended! Staff so warm and inviting!!! Will be back often!
