Returning to Black-Eyed Pea after 15 years was a nostalgic delight. The Mom s Meatloaf was just as comforting and delicious as I remembered. Our server, Maya, provided exceptional service, making the experience even more enjoyable. A five-star experience that brought back wonderful memories thank you, Maya, and Black-Eyed Pea!

Im not sure who hired Stewart and let him be in charge, but his attitude and customer service skills are deplorable! Thank you for ruining our whole dining experience with demeaning sarcastic language. As much as we may have enjoyed previouslu patronizing The B.E.P, there are too many options especially in The Highlands to have to deal with the disrespect shown to our party today. Just because we had questions about a meal, any one was looking for a free meal. Nor does it warrant the behavior of attempting to snatch the plate. If Stewart hates his job, his life or whatever, please keep him far from the public. Especially as a representative of a management team!

We were one of three tables in there. Service was pretty quick but server was a little too chatty telling us things he probably shouldn t be. The food doesn t seem homemade like it used to, seems very packaged. Won t be back which is really disappointing.

My wife and I love this restaurant. The last Blackeyed Pea Restaurant on the planet. It s a true shame that the others closed! Anyway, the food is great! Texas home cooking without messing up your kitchen and dish washing. And, as restaurant prices go these days, it is amazingly inexpensive. We get a great meal (meat, 2 veggies, rolls + cornbread, and ice tea all included for a very reasonably priced meal on the Senior Menu). And then, there s Archie. He s our waiter there. We ask for him on every visit. He is very pleasant, personable, experienced, and has a nice smile and a glad to see you attitude. He may be the reason we keep returning time and time again. He has a huge group of loyal customers who always want to sit in his section. Truthfully, you may sit in his section a bit longer due to his large group of customers, but the wait is worth it. He will hustle to serve, We love you Archie! Thank you for treating us so well. And, thank you to the lady owner who saved the restaurant for us when all of the sister locations were closing! You have our gratitude and appreciation!

I attended black eyed peas with my family for my 17th birthday. I had a total of 25 guests at first we were seated and he took our drink orders, I personally did not receive any drink and when I told him that he said it was still in the making (virgin Piña colada). After about 15 minutes my other guest texted that there would be about 16 of them coming, we asked him would he be able to do it and he said yes so they came and were seated. The only thing I received was my appetizer and three people at my table never received any food. After about another hour only half of my guest ate and the other half only either had drinks or an appetizer. I asked for my drink again and he spoke to me as if I was being annoying. At this point it has been two hours I haven t received my drink or my entree. My guest were upset cause they had to return some of the food due to it being cold and under cooked. After 40 minutes I got my food (still no drink) and it was cold and tough (chicken fried chicken) I ate it but was upset. We then asked for our check and it was over $800, none of the stuff we never received or that was sent back was taken off. We called for the manager cause the waiter said he wasn t going to take none of the stuff off. The manager came but was appalled when she saw how many of us there were. The waiter never told the manager about the other guest. He lied and said we never told him about everyone else but the whole table spoke up and said that was untrue. Some of my guests paid in cash and he put the money into his pockets when he thought no one was looking. We had to settle the ticket ourself because the manger and the waiter didn t want to come off of any money. It took about an hour in a half before we were able to walk out. Then he ran to the car because he didn t take all the money off of the card that was used to pay and said we still needed to pay $100 so we told him to take the money that was given to him to pay for Salome plates out of his pockets and pay for the rest of the meal. Then we left. This was my worst experience at a restaurant ever and I was completely disappointed with the waiter and manager.

Black-eyed pea was one of my fondest places to eat as a child, so I recently went to the last one in Arlington, and I was disappointed. Although the food is ok, it definitely is not how it used to be back in the day. First, the atmosphere was decent, and the wait time was short for a Sunday afternoon. Secondly, our waitress, although polite and informative, very rarely came around to the point where I had to flag down another waitresses to find her. Third and finally was the food. I had the Texas chicken fried steak, which had some tough spots but was ok. I honestly thought it was going to be a bigger chicken fried steak, but it was just two pieces. My sides were whipped sweet potatoes, which were sweet, and the baked squash casserole, which was dry and bland. The turkey and dressing was the saving grace of my experience here, it was simply delicious, moist and tender, just how i like it.The rolls and cornbread were soft and tasty, however, I found out there is a limit of three baskets of bread per table. And the sweet tea was sweet just enough. Overall, I would give this spot another tryout of pure nostalgia, but if it were a restaurant by another name, I would definitely think twice.

Unfortunately I do not remember our servers name but I know if I was to see her again I would want her to serve my table she was absolutely wonderful and all of her food was out on A timely manner. The only downfall I saw was the restaurant charging for extra rolls. But that does make sense because they are so good! Also they have fried corn on the cob so it feels like youre at the fair any time of year! I look forward to going back for my favorite roast beef!

The Black Eyed Peas used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I went to Dallas today to eat there and tried the liver and onions. It wasn t edible. There was so much gristle. It was untouchable and almost incredible. We tried again today and ordered something different. The country fried steak, same issue. It was almost untradable and uncuttable because of the gristle. The service is good and the sides are great. sure hope they fix whatever they been doing and order a higher quality cut of meat.

First of all, I used to love this restaurant chain and always visited in N. Dallas before they closed. I recently learned 1 still existed in Arlington, so I made the long drive hoping for the same great experience. The cornbread and rolls were hot and fresh and still on point, but my meal(ordered the sirloin steak, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies) was EXTREMELY salty. Being super hungry, I ate about half of it, before giving up. Our waitress delivered our food and then disappeared. We had to flag her down for service, at which point I told her how overly-salted my food was. It tasted like someone dropped an open salt shaker on my plate, just crazy. Maybe the 1 star review that mentioned flavorless food made them go overboard with salt? Not worth the drive or time, and wont be back.

As an older couple, we were mostly ignored. Inital contact by waitress about 10 minutes. After order taken, did not see her again. Someone else delivered the food, no one ever checked on us. This was Sunday afternoon before the lunch rush, only a few customers present. Waitress spent the whole time talking to friends in another booth across the room. After wed eaten, no one ever brought check so we estimated cost from menu, left money on the table- without any tip of course, and left. Since we always split a single meal, we usually tip based on twice the check amount, plus a sizeable bonus for good or excellent service. In this case no tip at all and we will not be returning to the site again.

Im glad we didnt have an hour plus wait for a table. The food was ok, the turkey was dry, and the cobbler wasnt cooked throughly as the dough was pretty raw. The young man was sweet enough but lacking in table service skills.

Its easy to believe no one actually works here. I tried to flag down about 3 different associates and was ignored by every single one. At no point was I actually served before I left. Unbelievably unprofessional. Edit: Does that change whether I deserve any respect? Either way, it wasnt afforded.

Im not sure what the policy is on seating guests a half hour before closing, but my daughter and I had a craving for BEP. We walked in and were completely ignored by the entire staff. All of which made eye contact with us, but did not acknowledge or inform us that they could not seat us. It will be a long while before I attempt another vist to any BEP establishment.

Archie Sharkie is awesome! Super friendly and hilarious and a great server! The food was all really great! Possibly the best chicken fried steak I ve ever had. The fried okra was so fresh and not slimy inside! Even basics like steamed broccoli was really good and the onion rings were perfectly done. No roaches, no weird smells, no ignoring servers, like in the 1 star reviews, just amazing down home cooking with fabulous service. It s been years since we went to a BEP but I guarantee we ll be back soon! Vegetarian options: Lots of sides and a 5 part veggie plate option.

If you have eaten Black-eyed Pea in the past, this location wont disappoint you. Their chicken fried chicken meal taste how I remembered. The restaurant is great for group dinner. Even though they dont take reservation, they were able to easily accommodate our party of 12. Our server Stuart was awesome and the food came out fast. Prices were great. Average meal per person with tax and tip came out was $16. Will definitely visit again when I am in the area.

When we arrived, we waited at least 10 mins before we were even greeted, and then we were directed to a seating area where we were just left to sit and wait with no updates. The wait to be seated at a table was incredibly long, and there were plenty of tables available. When we finally inquired about when a table would be ready, the waitress rudely stated that all the tables that were available were already full. When we eventually got seated at a table, our waitress Paige was really sweet and friendly and did an awesome job taking care of us. Ultimately, the service was horrible aside from our waitress, but the food was good.
