Small and intimate zoo, you have to just enjoy it for what it is. If you live in the area consider a zoo membership so you can casually visit multiple times throughout the year and get more value for your money.

The indoor area was closed, it was 101 degrees so partially my fault for choosing to go on such a hot day, but with the inside being closed there was only a few animals to see. Tickets were only $15 (2 adults and one child) so it wasnt a waste of money, just not your typical ZOO..

It was nice to go and see the animals and connect with nature. I still think that the zoo should have some improvements and make sure that the concrete areas inside the enclosures are full of water so that the animals can cool off whenever it is super hot outside. The restrooms also need quite a bit of attention. The no drinks allowed, in my opinion, should at least allow bottled water. If the gift shop is not open, which it was not today, you only have access to a water fountain. To many germs going around for me to want to use that. Other than that, it was a nice experience.

For Amarillo to be a decent sized city, this zoo is one of the worst zoos I have been to across the state of Texas. Hardly any animals, and what animals they do have are just sad looking. The money that is used for admission should be used to update the zoo. Maybe they don t get enough visitors, I m not sure. I think it s time to use city money to update this zoo and make it more enjoyable for the locals and travelers! Enough water parks and tot-n-totums, get this zoo help!

I ve lived in Amarillo my entire life. I have always taken my kids to the zoo, I m not sure I will continue. The upkeep has gone downhill, even from three months ago. There are weeds that have overgrown in the majority of the enclosures. The walkways are not cared for. It seems there s not any pride in the representation of the zoo. I ve read other reviews and the replies from the zoo and it s just sad. I get the animals are rescued, that s great. That doesn t mean they need to live in areas that are covered in weeds. Have some pride in the appearance of the zoo. This was the saddest trip to the zoo. Do better.

I understand the zoo being small, I can understand the enclosures being small simply because of the size of the zoo. But some of these animals are not well cared for. When we walked past the donkeys my child picked up a little bit of grass and the donkeys came out instantly as if they were starving, they had no food or water in their enclosure, its was all empty (the staff said they get fed in the late afternoon) but they were clearly starving, they were visibly underweight and their hooves were cracked and broken. We did speak to staff (the 2 people we saw) and they acted like it was fine but the donkeys were for sure not fine. The goats reacted the same. I dont know alot about the other animals personally. I can say they looked sad and hungry but I dont know them as well, but I do know those donkeys were not being cared for well enough.

I want to give a great review but our poor zoo has seen better days. I get sad every time I go. Enclosures are way too small for multiple bears and lions. The donkeys were trudging through deep mud. I know weve had a lot of rain but they looked miserable. Concessions were closed so no food or drink. The worst part was they had the bathroom doors open and I could see a man using the urinal from the lion exhibit. I dont know if we will be back. I grew up in Amarillo and honestly feel it would be better to close out than holding on to what it is now. Price for entry: $5 Ticket type: Adult. Kid under 2 was free.
