This is our second stay at the Barfield Hotel, midway stopping point on drive back from Denver to Dallas. The hotel is charming with a fascinating story around the Duchess; the restaurant is more premium and attached to the hotel, the atmosphere/ambience is good as well as the service , the food is hit or miss. The speak easy bar at the hotel is exceptional unfortunately closed when we were visiting the 2nd time (Monday night?). My husband started with a cup of the potato soup and I had the wedge salad (both good); he had the cheese raviolis with blackened chicken - high marks on the ravioli, but chicken was not blackened and a little rubbery. . The crab cakes were my main course; and they were okay, I ve had better. Total bill with a glass of wine and sparkling water $105. If we stay at the hotel again, will seek out another restaurant, to sample something new. Haven t tried the steaks or short rib yet

Dinner was fantastic. Food, service, everything could not have been better - the pork chop is outstanding. Only reason this isn t a 5-star review is the breakfast. Breakfast was underwhelming but most frustrating was the service. Service was slow and the server checked on us in very long stretches despite the restaurant not being busy at all.

I have dined at Toscana twice. First, was 2 years ago at the holidays for dinner on a Saturday. Food was good! 4 adults and 2 kids, service was welcoming and really nice to our kids. Their filets (beef tenderloin) are massive! So yummy. I went back a few days ago with my wife and the chef greeted us with an amuse bouche, what a treat! They are friendly as ever, and the food was even better than the first time. We recommend their pork chop, and chef specials. If they have the watermelon gazpacho, you should definitely get it. Cool place for Amarillo, Tx. World class ambiance and service. Kid-friendliness: Tenders, Mac n chz, pasta, chzburgers, fries, dessert, doughnuts

I am most impressed with this restaurant. It was my first time here. I arrived early for my reservation, but got seated anyway. I had the special tonight: Halibut with a honey habanero sauce, mushroom risotto, and fresh veggies. All three tasted fantastic. The risotto was delicious, the vegetables were just the right amount of crunch, and the halibut was cooked perfectly: firm and flakey. I will return, and Ill bring friends.

We made reservations several days in advance and upon arrival the host informed us we had two seating options, right next to the entry (one person staring at a wall, the other directly next to a wall) or in between two other couples eating. We asked for other options since the restaurant was mostly vacant with plenty of available seating, and did not receive another choice. There was plenty of seating available exclusively for two people to include up to our departure throughout the restaurant. Sitting between the 2 couples was quite distracting since both had conversations going 2 feet away on either side. This was literally the only table in the entire restaurant where we d be seated next to other couples on either side. There was an easy and accommodating solution they chose not to use. The more significant issue, the market price of their ribeye is nowhere near worth the $70 pricing, not even close. Literally any other location that has steak on the menu would be a better choice for 1/2 the price throughout Amarillo. My wife ordered the same steak and it was significantly thinner and didn t appear to be 16 oz worth of steak. Overall disappointing visit. If you re spending $200+ this experience isnt for you. Save your money and spend elsewhere.

Food was decent but price of steak was ridiculous. Steaks, which were good but not amazing, were $70 a piece!! Had just had same quality steaks from Walmart for 3/4 th the price. Service was really great though. If you go, make sure you ask specifically what the price of the steaks are and know that if you want a small serving of sauce with it, it costs extra not included in the $70 price of the steak. Also had to contend with several flies in the place which were not invited and were certainly not getting any of my steak.

Just not worth the $600+ tab (not including tip) when we have much better options in Amarillo. The restaurant is very nice. That s it. The steaks are twice as expensive as X- and Saltgrass, but the quality is MUCH less. My steak was way undercooked. I traded with my husband. My steamed vegetables were so hard we couldn t cut them. I didn t finish my potato because it was so dry and didn t come with much for a loaded potato. Another steak was incredibly tough. The caramel AND chocolate cheesecakes were the absolute worst we ve ever had. The texture and flavor were terrible. Even a Jello cheesecake is much better than these. The chocolate cheesecake had watery chocolate syrup drizzled on it. The server was too busy to return quickly enough for what we needed. I kept asking for refills that might or might not come. Finally just drank someone else s drink. Server was friendly, but too busy. The only thing that was really good was the charcuterie board. We always get excellent Oscar-filets from X- and Saltgrass for about half the price of these. We were really excited to try this place. Unfortunately, our table was very disappointed.

My girlfriend and I ordered the filet mignon. Medium well and a medium plus, the medium well came out well done and the medium plus came out medium rare. When I sent back the medium rare steak to get it fixed, half came out medium and the other half medium rare still the flavor of the steak was non existent, and trying my girlfriends steak was like eating a burger. The best part about it all, was seeing being charged 56 dollars to eat an uncooked and over cooked burger I m sure it s a decent restaurant but it was hands down the worst steak I ve ever had.

We got the fried mozzarella for an appetizer which was different take, lightly breaded and flavorful compared to other places. Wait service was friendly and good. Wife got the alfredo which she thoroughly enjoyed. I got the ribeye, do not recommend for their ridiculous price point, zero flavor to it and really poor cut of meat, gristle you couldn t chew through in every other bite. As far as steakhouse goes was definitely the most expensive and worst steak I ve had in Amarillo. We ll go back for the pasta maybe or just appetizers and drinks. Parking: They try to force valet on you if you pull up to the front, rather than just tell you where their parking is.

This was our 3rd visit to this restaurant on Saturday night . We had been bragging about how nice the restaurant was and wanted our friends to join us. We made reservations for 7:00pm for a party of 4 on November 29th. We arrived early so we could visit the Speakeasy downstairs, so checked with the host and they said that was fine. We came back to the host station at 7:00 only to find they could not accommodate our party of 4. Other people were also in the same situation as we were and had been waiting as well. The manager was called out to address concerns. He basically said we will have some tables open up when people leave . There were no apologies from him at all. I read in the comments below where management suggested to a man who couldn t be seated to make reservations in order to insure a table. That is so not true. Sad to say on a Saturday night there were no other nice restaurants to eat at. You lost a loyal customer by overbooking your tables and providing no alternative.

The kale salad with salmon was delicious. Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly service. Inside the Barfield Hotel downtown Amarillo, I found it welcoming and easy to park nearby. They also have valet parking. A speakeasy and rooftop patio bar with live music provide other entertaining reasons to visit this nicely updated historic location. The history of MD Oliver who founded the location in the 1920 s was fascinating.

Went to Toscana for brunch this weekend, and was greatly disappointed. I cant speak for other meals, but I definitely dont recommend their brunch service. Our waiter was friendly and they checked on us often, they did a good job there. However, the food was highly underwhelming. We ordered three dishes to share. First was the Belgian Waffle, which was advertised as having a honey orange mascarpone. The waffle was dense and served with only butter and syrup. Next was the Grilled French Bread. The bread did not seem toasted or heated in any way. It was missing the whipped Rosemary Ricotta and Chives. It came as a cold sandwich with shaved ham, rubbery scrambled eggs (on the menu as soft scrambled) and mayonnaise. The breakfast potatoes seem like a frozen packaged product. They had no seasoning or crispness. Finally, we had the simple breakfast plate. The apple sausage links were very delicious, but the breakfast potatoes and eggs had the same problems as the Grilled French Bread dish. Overall, the meal was no where near worth the price we paid.

3 fails equal a train wreck and all this before I ordered. I found it amazing that they could not handle a single diner at 5 PM. The hosts indicated they were full for the evening even though only 1 table was currently occupied. One host suggested I go downstairs to the Paramount Club and that it is the same menu. There were a number of people there and it looked like it would be fun. I asked for the food menu and it was NOT the same as the restaurant. Very disappointed so I went back up stairs. The host only offered seating at the bar so I reluctantly tried that. I sit down and look at the drink menu and ask for the food menu and two skateboarding dudes have a seat beside me (one with actual skateboard). I did not want to be having my (hopefully fine dining meal) next to a couple of guys chugging beers. I decided I was just not meant to dine here. I will not be back.

What a disappointment! I don t mind paying a high price for good food but this is far from that. I ordered the pork chop which was $31 .it was very blah. Not much flavor. No sear. The Brussels and carrots were the same..not flavorful and undercooked. The risotto was awful. It was so overcooked that my date and I initially thought it was mashed potatoes. Just a big mushy mess. And it did not taste good. My date ordered the pasta with the short ribs .it had just a few tiny pieces of short ribs and a ton of soggy Kale. The only good thing about this place was the wine and the waiter. His service was great. I would absolutely never return and would not recommend. There are much better places in Amarillo to eat.

Atmosphere is nice. Ordered a couple of appetizers and soup. Both were good. I asked our server a couple of questions about the menu. He was not very helpful like expected from a fine dining restaurant. Several minutes later he was being very friendly to another group and explaining menu items in detail. During this observation period there were 2 people in another group that were unhappy with their food so the manager took their entrees back and returned with new entrees. 2 tables that arrived after us had their order taken. The manager checked on several other tables but never stopped at ours. Unfortunately after we received drinks and the appetizers our waiter took 30 minutes to return. We wanted to wait it out and be patient but decided it was too long and felt we were being ignored. We got our check and enjoyed a nice meal out Crush.
