Awesome display but the city doesnt maintain the locomotive very well, they even threatened to sell it a few years back to reclaim the valuable real estate next to ugly parking lots and abandoned buildings. The locomotive used to be on the grounds of the Santa Fe Station where that ugly new pavilion is now. If this plot is really soo valuable why not move it back to the station?

The front of the display is really nice as well as the front of the train but the tail and far back is a little sketchy. I love how green the grass is and its soft as well and well kept. I just wish the homeless would allow the side and back to stay pretty.

What a GORGEOUS steam engine & tender!! Why on Earth would any community not preserve this & make it a highlight... I diverted off route 66 to see this. It was the only quick visit historical site/item to see, since the community has not preserved much of its old West character or sites. Sadly, the fence around it prevented any good quality pictures- but uts understandable why the femce is there- so it doesnt get destroyed with spray paint & foam like Cadillac Ranch

While she is a breathtaking example of railroad history, she was in a chain link fence with barbed wire on top to keep vandals away. Sadly it was difficult to really enjoy in such circumstances...

Went to see a giant of her time frozen in a state of wasting away. This locomotive was marvel of the time and fascinating to know how many features the queen had. 20,000 gallons of water held in the tank, that is 40-45 bathtubs. Although this visit was very intuitive, it was more sad than anything because of the Madam Queen is stuck behind fences with bar wire on top. Almost all her history just getting lost in time.

She needs some love again and probably a locomotive port so shes got a roof over her to protect her from the sun & weather but it was sure nice to see the original Santa Fe prototype Texas type locomotive. Even nicer that they had her marker lights and headlight lit.

We have had 3 birthday parties there when my son was younger. Usually cold in March but he loved it. They do not do parties. We just took our party stuff out front by garden. Fun nevertheless.

If you love trains and a free photo opportunity, this is the place. Located downtown just past the civic center and the Embassy Suites. Free walking tour of history, a must for any train lover.

The train Madam Queen is fenced in. The plaque they have to describe it is hardly visibke to read because the fence gets in the way of reading. There is a place to sit in front of it and parking is easy. The library is nearby. The train itself is beautiful.

Cool old train, about as tall as Big Boy, but roughly half the weight & length. Quick 5 minute stop to stretch your legs, but worth it if you are into trains.

You cant take decent photos since the train is protected by a fence. You can still admire the train that is so famous.

Great old train engine. My only complaint is the location and lack of access; due to the chain link fence, theres no way to get good photos. Might I suggest moving it out to the Amarillo Railroad Museum? Im sure it would be well-loved by their staff!
