Clean place and nicely presented. Wonderful operation, all the food was custom. From the burger, custom fries, dipping sauces, was really something. My favorite was the Black pils. One beverage called Brite berry is exactly like Welsh grape. The Octoberfest was tasty. Thanks to the owner and staff making everything wonderful.

Event coordinator Rani Burke sent us a quote/estimate for our rehearsal wedding dinner, but when I went to pay a few days later she said oh whoops, we are actually not taking reservations on that day because of Oktoberfest. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. Why even offer and send a quote before you check the calendar? Ridiculous

Had an amazing experience while using their private event room for my sisters sweet 16! They were extremely helpful when we forgot utensils/plates for the cake. They even went as far to finding a balloon air pump and helped us decorate on a time crunch. They were all awesome and I would totally recommend this place for anyone. They also have elevators so even our grandparents were accommodated.

What a chill place with a great atmosphere. We don t live in this area, but a coworker and I had an hour or two to kill while we were waiting for a flight, and this brewery was recommended to us. We had a couple of the beers, a glass of wine, and the pork verde fries. Everything was exceptionally tasty, and the bartenders were awesome. Great vibe here, bet it would be fun on trivia night. Next time we re in the area we ll be back.

Must stop for beer fanatics. La Dolce Vita is a lovely tribute to Italian beers with a sweet finish, pizza oven needs to be a next step. Leadoff Lager is a ridiculously clean lager, this beer tells you the craft heavy brewmaster at work like no other beer on the menu. Nowhere to hide, light and an incredibly delicious beer. Hidden Agenda pulls heavy almost like a pale ale, lovely flavor. Kibosh Bock is also solid, I get cherry with the bread and caramel. Crudo is a nod to the healthier crowd, the rest of the menu is amazing and leaves you wanting to return. A wonderful tribute to that foodie destination, South Africa in quite a few of the dishes. Staff are beer and food educated and super helpful. Do yourself and your mouth a favor, drop in to this West Texas gem. I had to come back a week later to ensure it wasn t a mistake! Definitely legit and for real. Get after it and visit.

My spouse and i came in so excited to try this place, but the experience was everything but that. when we first walked in, we weren t greeted but instead looked down upon by the people behind the bar. the blonde chick in the tennis skirt was drinking before taking our order. once we got our drinks and sat outside, we noticed them locking their stairs. confused, we asked blonde chick what time they closed in which she reports 10 pm and it was 9:50 (would have been nice if someone mentioned that while we were ordering the drinks and holding a board game). the gentlemen behind the bar was also drinking and didn t assist one bit. when asked about drink options he was hesitant on answering anything. maybe we got everyone on a bad night but do not recommend . wine was 5/10 at best.

They expect you to tip before you even get your food. Easy no tip, with plans to tip afterward depending on our visit. There were like 6 people ahead of me when I ordered us each a burger. We waited 30 minutes. No biggie. Then like, 3 people who came after us got their burgers first. I went to the window and asked them if they forgot about us. They said theyve been behind all day. I sat back down for 5 minutes and was about to go get my money back when the pager went off. I got 2 burgers with dry, burnt patties. The pettiness made me laugh and we were starving, so we ate it and will definitely not be back.

Grain theory has it going on. Great location downtown with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating which is nice when it gets too loud inside. Care is given to keeping guests comfortable outdoors with shading and heat sources provided. The food is excellent. We sometimes come in just to eat here. High quality meat and ingredients, cooked well, with great flavors. Its always clean and well kept. Beers cold. Only reason for leaving four stars is, the person working the register is usually unfriendly. The last few times there was a younger girl with dark hair and bangs who wasnt the least bit welcoming, never smiled, and stared at us blankly as we ordered as though she was annoyed. This is consistently the attitude of whoever is in her position and thats unfortunate since its the first employee your guests interact with. Bit of a spoiler.

The place has a cool, relaxed vibe. Tried the patty melt, which came with frites, along with an appetizer of biltong (South African dish that is sort of like jerky). Did not sample their beers because I was treating a couple of under 21 college students but it appears they have a passion for that side of the business. The restaurant is upstairs in a building that used to be designated as a fallout shelter, sort of adding to the mystique. Give it go and see what you think.

Great place with good food and craft beer. Lots of seating indoor or outside on their balcony. We had the Biltong, pretzel bites and an order of the steak frites, all of which were very tasty. As for beers, I would highly recommend the King of Mars (double IPA) and Lunar Maria (stout). They also have a selection of wine, mead, cider, seltzers for those who like other adult beverages. For kids they also have a variety of table top games like connect four, tic tac toe, ring toss and shuffle board. Also on the day we visited, Grain Theory hosted a pop up book store with a variety of books. Though born in Abilene, Ive lived in Houston for the past 20 years and its great to see a business like this in downtown Abilene. If your in the area I would highly recommend stopping by for a bite to eat and a cold beer! Update for return visit: Absolutely great place! They now have a pour your own/beer wall which gives a good option for trying a variety of beers. Great spot in downtown Abilene. We stop every time were in town!

Grain Theory was a great place for lunch. It was not busy at all at 11:15 am and it was never busy during my time there until 12:30 on Friday. It is a modern brewery pub with long picnic style seating throughout. It looked like there were a few places where you could have a private table but for most of the seating, dont plan on a private conversation. They have balcony seating as well. I hear the beer here is really good but I personally cant speak about that. The fish and chips were really good. The batter was more crunchy than flaky but the flavor was great. The chips were really good as well. The food was ready very quickly...but like I said before, there werent many people there. I would recommend going and trying the fish and chips. I would eat it again.

Boy, have these guys done a great job. They have grown their beer repertoire as they have grown the beer palate in Abilene. This place has had a huge impact on the beer scene in the area by exposing people to styles of beer that they never would have tried otherwise. The food game continues to grow and impress and the coffee is always top notch. The beers, coffee, and great food are a constant and the great people and positive vibes in the business have had a big impact on the downtown community. The block parties and other events are a great way to bring people into the downtown and let them see how Abilene continues to get better. If you only have time to go out to one place while in town, put Grain Theory at the top of your list.

The next time I m visiting, I ll have to bug one of them for a tour and hear their recipe process, haha. Love that they are passionate about brewing. They even serve coffee brewed there (I think!). Definitely the best in Abilene and maybe some of the best in the entire state. Also ordered at the table was the breakfast Frites. The bratwurst was amazing and just the right consistency, and the sunny side up egg gave everything a great flavor. I generally don t like wheat ales but occasionally if feeling adventurous I ll step out of my comfort zone. Tis the season I guess. The dunkelweizen here is great, among the best I ve ever tried. Aside from the great taste, the body and mouthfeel are on point making it a perfect well-rounded beer.

This restaurant is in a great location downtown Abilene. It is absolutely beautiful weather you sit inside or outside. Unfortunately the food was over all unimpressive. The food was not bad It just wasn t great. I would still come here on occasion just for the atmosphere itself. The space is very unique and the staff is very friendly.

Grain Theory truly has the best espresso in Abilene! Ive been there four times for business meetings already, and have been delighted with my amazingly consistently strong and flavorful espresso each time. The space is comfortable and inviting, and it isnt too loud or crowded during the day to prevent good conversation. I havent tried any of their food or beer, I havent been there in the evening, and the workers are still getting used to things, but for my purposes at least, this place is awesome! EDIT: After a year and a half of being open, Grain Theory has become an integral part of my life and the Abilene community! Theres something for everyone at any time of day -- whether its my vegan sister, my carnivorous husband, picky-eater children, or my fancy-pants foodie self who likes caviar for breakfast. The food menu is relatively small, but the ingredients are high quality and the dishes are intriguingly creative with unique complex flavor combinations. They still have the best European-style espresso in town for morning or afternoon coffee meetings, an amazing assortment of herbal and black teas, and their rotating selection of excellent house-brewed beers, local mead, and good wine make for a delightful date night or celebratory event. They also occasionally have honey process coffee for java snobs! Over the past year and a half, they have created an atmosphere of outstanding culinary (and hoppy!) experimentation and community involvement and events that bring energy and liveliness to the whole Abilene scene. Yall rock!!

We stopped by while visiting Abilene just recently. The place was awesome and so relaxing. The place was nicely decorated and the staff was very welcoming. They had both outdoor and indoor seating and both very comfortable. We met the owner and loved hearing his story about starting the restaurant. The craft beer they brew was exceptional and the food was equally great. My wife and I will be back next time were in Abilene. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a great craft beer, wine, and great food.

COFFEE! Grain Theorys barista experience is a little piece of Europe in Abilene TX. If you want real espresso or the a true macchiato that actually has coffee as the main flavor (not pure sugar) then Grain Theory is the perfect cup and atmosphere. I personally enjoy sampling a new roast and a new brew method each time I visit, they roast right on the premises and have drip, pour overs, cold brew and all other usual suspects, their cappuccino is on pare with the best Italian cafe - Im a kid in the candy store. Today I tried the newer Japanese cold brew and got to pick my bean, I recommend the Guatemalan Honey processed. Its so good I bought a bag. Oh yeah, and all the other reviews on food and drink are correct in the continuity of quality - the quinoa bowl with that amazing marinated chicken, amazing - what an amazing jewel in downtown Abilene.

Beers were good and atmosphere is nice. My problem is the staff. I stopped in on my way from Dallas to Carlesbad as I am a brewer and try most breweries on my travels. My issue comes from their beer to go policy. They charge one price for one can, but give a discount if you buy 4, so I tried all their beers and chose 4 for the road. Problem came when they did not give me the discount. I asked why and they said because I mixed the selection. I asked why that mattered as the cooler was all singles and I got a dismissive because my boss said. I asked to speak to the boss and was told he wasnt there. I then asked to speak with anyone in charge and was told there was no one. I believe companies should cater to their customers, and this one clearly does not. They got the last of my hard earned money, I will support other businesses that respect their clientele. UPDATE - true to his word the owner reached out to me to personally discuss this issue. I feel he responded sincerely and respectfully. As such, I am revising this review from 2 stars to 4 as my experience with personnel at the business has been addressed to staff and hopefully will not be repeated with other customers.

A spectacular spot to go for a beer, wine, coffee, and even great food. The space itself is awesome. Open to the outdoors, inside tables, perimeter patio on the 2nd level with views of downtown streets. Really cool set up. The food menu is well above average with a good diversity of delicious apps and plates to pair with your drinks. I have not gotten their coffee yet on my visits but the wine and beer is truly worth trying out. David and Jeremy are two of the 3 owners I got to meet and chat with for a bit and they are amazing people doing some great stuff for their customers. The stuff they think up is just amazing. You see it in their beer and their food. I love the biltong as an appetizer and then the international sausage plate is a must in my book! The crudite plate is also a nice touch to pair with wine and beer of course. They have some kind of beer for every palate, even a picky beer person like me can be pleased. Even when busy this place has a good system for keeping orders coming out fast, you never wait too long for food to come out consistently good each time. Just a really darn good place to come for unique craft beer, good wine, great food, affordable prices and good times all round.

We popped in for a meeting and a beer and ended up staying for dinner. The lighter Pilsner had a great flavor and taste while not being overwhelming or having an after taste that stays with you. The fish was soft and fried just right for us. We also went the route of a whole bunch of items from the pretzels to the smaller app plates and found they really made for a nice night. The outdoor seating is great and the team there is on top of things.

Robbie, the chef, is brilliant! We were reminded tonight just how special the food is at GT when we ordered steak frites at a swanky restaurant in Orlando, FL. They were good, but not even close to the incredible steak frites at Grain Theory. Do yourself a favor and get yourself to Grain Theory! It s definitely one of a kind!
