Came for my husband s bday- waitress in the bar area was beyond awful. Had to ask the cook for napkins . Waitress never refilled drinks or even asked . Never checked on us once . Brought the wrong dressing for salad . Never brought bread and when we asked because. The tables she was friendly with all had bread she said there wasn t any ready when y all got here-so she couldn t have brought us any once there was when she brought everyone else some . Waited forever hoping she d return to table -had to get and got bar to get boxes and check . So disappointing considering the food was good .needless to say we will not return

Not trying to be funny at all period but I have never had mashed potato salad let me tell yall something!!!! This place has the best dog gone bbq I done tasted in a while! I ordered so much stuff and everything was delicious! The potato salad is mashed but it s a 10/10!!! The jalapeno chz sausage omg! Listen if u are in Abilene for whatever reason plz stop here the prices are great and I spend a lot on food if it s worth it! Sat down, it took a while to get a waitress. Then, we ordered waited 30 mins to find out they were out of chicken. We said we would just leave. The waitress walked off and said, ok! So sad, it has changed over the years. Went back for nostalgia, guess Ive lost that loving feeling. Went to Lytle Land and Cattle down the road 3 mins, it was a bust too.

This place feels like they re stuck in the 1940 s. We were given a plate of plain white cold bread to start off. The food was not seasoned, service was poor, and everything was overpriced. If I m going to pay higher dollar I expect to at least not be served in plastic and styrofoam while dining in. They also got our order (for two people) wrong and were out of stuff because they only make so much for the day .

I made a visit to Abilene i haven t been to Joe Allen s in over 20 years! This used to be THE place for BBQ in Abilene. So, since I was craving some West Texas, brisket and ribs, off I went. Boy has this place changed! I had to use a steak knife to cut the brisket and the ribs were super salty. For sides, I had the pinto beans and cabbage, also not good. This breaks my heart!

Went here for the first time and had lunch. My husband had a sliced brisket sandwich and my son and I had burgers. Portions were good. The fries were delicious, more like a fresh cut fry. The burger needed seasoning but was good otherwise. The brisket was just okay. Service was great, especially considering how busy it was. Prices were excellent. Always nice to get a decent burger for under 10 bucks.

I just finished a bacon cheeseburger I took out from there. As a 50 year old trucker Ive 8n burgers from all over the country. Literally. This burger I just finished is the 2nd best Ive ever had away from home. #1 being a place in Wyoming. It was good. The place had a great nostalgic vibe to it and everyone was very nice. My wife and I were in Abilene for a day trip. Weve been craving barbecue, so we looked up Joe Allens. When we arrived, we found the atmosphere to be inviting. We were seated and served quickly. I had the lunch special steak (New York Cut), and she had the two meat combo. Everything was delicious, and our server made sure we were happy. The onion rings were over battered and tasted like egg, they needed to use freshly mixed flour. Dont know if Ill give it a second try. I was excited to go eat Saturday night. But this is not a good place to come if you are by yourself. They wont serve you if bigger tables come along. Even if you have been waiting longer- they prefer big parties and not a single person they make you wait until a single chair comes along. I waited but eventually just left. I wish they would update their menu prices to reflect what they actually charge. Second time in a row I was not charged what was shown on the menu. Its just bad business, atleast inform the patron prices are wrong. I also got charged for drinks when we only had water. We had a one night stay in Abilene and was hopeful to get some good Texas BBQ. There wasnt a lot to choose from. I loved the look of this place when we pulled up. The service was really great. You can order by the plate or the pound. Since we cant take leftovers we did plates. I got sausage, ribs and brisket. Sausage was good, the ribs were pretty good. I liked the rub and they pulled off the bone perfectly. The brisket was terrible. I couldnt eat it. I dont think it was smoked long enough because it was like biting into leather. There was a layer of fat on it that really should have rendered if it was cooked long enough. The sides were good. Better than a lot of bbq places. Overall the food was good and I would go again just to see if the brisket was a fluke.

Our server was most apologetic if it took her more than 2 seconds to bring us anything. She was lovely. I accidentally got served a baked potato when I ordered a sweet potato, so she said I could have both! Result! The sweet potato took mere moments to be brought to me. DO NOT ORDER STEAKS OR SEAFOOD! The bbq stuff here, like brisket, pulled pork, etc. Is delicious. That being said, everything else is terrible. The seafood is old and taste like a pier at low tide. Even the corn dog my youngest got was nigh inedible. Personally, Ive been drooling over the thought of the 2 inch thick Ribeye for years. I finally found a celebratory reason to get it. It was awful. These people have no idea how to cook a steak. I asked for medium, because ribeye, and most of it was. However, the entire thing was burnt. I could really only taste burnt on my $60 steak. Absolutely awful. Do not go here If youre getting anything other than brisket and brisket adjacent food.

The food was not that great. I ordered a 3 meat plate consisting of brisket,turkey and chicken and all the meats were way too smoked. They tasted like they were bbqed by a propane cylinder torch. Anyways the baked potato was good the bread and cornbread were good and the waiter was very sweet and accommodating but the place seems musty and old and it wreaks of smokiness from the grills they use that its unpleasant. Wanted to like this place but it needs an overhaul and some better cooking techniques. Oh and the apple cobbler was terrific!

Best brisket I have ever had outside of Austin (brisket junkie myself). The bark was incredible, and the jalapeño cheddar sausage was very good. Sides were also great. Joe Allen s blows the other bbq joints in Abilene out of the water, and this place would stay in business in the Austin area, which is saying a lot.

Jaeci was one of the best servers Ive ever had, she was so attentive and informative and treated us like fsmily. My friend had been there but I never had. We both got the senior plates. $8.00 and she chose sliced brisket and I got the chopped. Not only was is great BBQ but everything we got was. Loved the Jalapeño cornbread and the beans, my friend loved the new potatos and the peach cobbler. The atmosphere was awesome. You have the choice of sitting on the side where you are served or the side thats more cafeteria style. Cant wait until the next time Im in Abilene.
